If you look at your post you will see 3 buttons to the right of the title - quote, modify, remove.
Try remove.

If id have only thought of looking right next to it?  Srsly I know, but it wont let me remove

That's because you can only delete posts and not threads. Since you're the person who started this thread, if you removed the first post in the thread the software thinks that you wish to delete the thread itself and not simply the post. What you can do in such cases is to ask the moderator to delete it for you.
