Title: GALACTIC CORE EXPLOSION 2012
Post by: daghda on 05/07/2005 20:17:00
Does anyone know if there any scientific evidence to back the many internet sites that tell of a galactic core explosion that may have happened or may be about to happen which they say is what the entire 2012 predictions are about.

We know very little about "the galactic core". (I assume you mean the Milky Way's galactic core.) It is obscured by dust, so we can't see it in visible light. Radio telescopes show galactic core structure, but are less detailed than visible light. X-ray telescopes show some active sources, but nothing that would be called "active". There has been speculation about a black hole at the center of the Milky Way galaxy, but unless it becomes active we can't see it.

I don't know of any scientific basis for expecting galactic core activity in the near future. Predictions of this type are almost certainly in vain.

You could provide some links to the many websites you referred to above.

The 2012 story has to do with the Mayan calendar ending, and their prediction that one of their larger time-cycles would end. It just stops, because the Earth will cross the galactic plane, and the excrement hits the ventilator, boldly put. Funny enough, that is astronomically correct, as far as I have been able to look it up in more straight circles, but it's considered a bit of a non-event there. Let's hope they're right.

Here is a link concerning the supposed galactic core explosion

This site is quite interesting and details the finds of the research on the hendaye cross
