Title: Why does the number of segments of a satsuma dictate how sweet it is?

Why is it that when you eat a Mandarin or Satsuma, the number of segments = how sweet they are? ie: Odd number = Sweeter than even numbers of segments.

What do you think?

I feel some home-brew science coming on!  We always have a bag or two of satsumas for office.  I think some blind testing is called for.  Will revert...
