? about EU banks

I've had an account at the locally owned bank for 30 or more years. Recently it was purchased by a national chain.
Today I wrote our gardener his weekly check, and the bank refused to honor it because he did not have an account with them.
I was astonished to find out that this sort of lunacy is legal. US banks do not have to provide any service to non customers, even honoring checks written on their accounts.
The bank manager said the policy was for my protection because of the possibility of forgery.
Other new "for your protection" policies include: two forms of picture ID are required for any transaction, one must not only endorse a check but place their fingerprint on it, and in an attempt to "encourage" electronic banking there will now be a $3 fee to use a teller.
I am now researching new banks, but it seems this sort of treatment is becoming the norm (there will be a $25 fee to close each account, $10 fee for the bank to issue a check for my funds, and a $3 fee for the teller to hand me the check).
Is this sort of crap happening with banks in the EU?

If you close your account and she hands you a check for your own money then how will you cash it with no account?
Take it out at the atm! LOL Then close it! LOL...

I hate banks.. No longer bank because I can do a better job and be more cost effective without them charging for every new service they think I need!

The way banks behave these days is criminal. There is no other word for it. Their charges are legalised robbery.
There is actually a case going through the UK courts to establish whether their charges are, in fact, legal. I eagerly await the outcome. UK courts are not so beholden to big business as those of some other countries.

I don't think much of boxing (My ideas of sport don't include deliberately brain damaging your opponent) but what have you got against the guy?

Why don't you try starting a new thread or something VERY similar?
Or are you just too bored?
