I want to be able to create restore points on my computer but I see that it's done only for those drives which have system protection turned on. How do I turn that on for a particular drive?

I have never faced this problem while creating restore points, and if you want this resolved... You'll have to give me some more information...
Which operating system are you using? Windows 7, 8, XP, Mac, Linux, Ubuntu?
How many system partitions do you have? As in Drives... C, D or whatever you have named them.
Just give me this information and I will write you a step by step tutorial on how to create a restore point.

I believe you are using Windows 7, so here is the tutorial on turning on system protection.
-Click start, left click on the computer button/option in the start menu, click properties.
-...That will lead you to system tab. On the left hand side you will see system protection, open it.
-In there, click on the drive you want to turn on system protection of and then click configure.
-In configuration tab, select the first option. Which is restore system setting and previous versions of file.
Viola! You have turned it on.

I would actually prefer you using a single partition/drive. I mean if you don't really need all the diversified drives... C, E or whatever you have named them and could just organise your data in a single drive, your primary drive, C. Which I myself do, or if you'd like to create another drive or transfer some space from one drive to another [For e.g you have 300 G.B in drive C and 150 G.B in drive E. You want more space in Drive C since it is your primary drive and carries out all the operations for your computer... Then you can actually transfer space from Drive E to Drive C].
I'm going to mention the steps involved even if you aren't really interested to do so.
-Deleting a volume/drive/partition and using it's space for another drive-
-Search Disk management in the start menu, open it. (It might appear as create and format hard disk partitions.)
-The drive which carries out 'Boot, page file, crash dump' is your primary partition. (There might be two primary partitions.)
- Now before you delete volume (Partition) make sure you move all that data from that partition to the one that you are planning to keep. (Deleting E? Move data from E to C, or whichever is your primary partition.)
- Done that? Return to Disk management and left click on the drive you want to delete and click on delete volume.
- Now the space freed from deleting that volume will show as unallocated space... To add that space to the primary partition, left click on the primary partition and click on extend volume. You will be able to carry out the steps involved after that on your own so I wont write them here.
[You can gather partial amounts of space from the existing drives and use that, as of then, unallocated space to create another drive.]
Warning: Do not try experimenting with the options! If you get stuck at some particular step, just message me and I will guide you through.

tick the "Disk" boxes you require [ which I've coloured red].
Then click on "Create" [ which I've coloured green].
NB: In reality my computer only has one physical Hard-Drive "Disk", which is divided into two partitions "C" & "D": There aren't two disks spinning in my computer.

In Windows 8.1, go to the 'System Protection' dialog (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System then select 'System Protection' from the items on the left).
In the middle of the 'System Protection' dialog you should see 'Protection Settings' with a list of 'Available Drives' below it. Each drive has a 'Protection' setting that is either 'On' or 'Off'.
To change this setting, click on the drive of interest to highlight it, then click on the 'Configure' button below the list. This will display the System Protection dialog for the selected drive. Here you can turn protection on or off, set the maximum disk space to be used for protection, and deleted all restore points for the disk.
