Title: If a black hole loses mass, has information escaped?
Post by: thedoc on 13/05/2016 13:50:02
John Murrell asked the Naked Scientists:
The final black hole in the merger observed by Ligo had a mass about 5 Solar Masses less than the total mass of the two original Black Holes. The 5 soalr masses being radiated as gravitational energy. Does this imply that some of the mass escaped from the black hole which of course is normally considered impossible.

As a second part if this mass has escaped from the black holes does that mean that 'information' has managed to escape ? If so does this solve at least in part of the Black Hole information paradox ?
What do you think?
