Oh for heavens sake !!
Wifey has agreed to look after a 13 year old budgerigar !!..apparently they only live for about six years !!
With my lot....it's going to be well deceased by the time the owner comes back in ten days !!
Oh great !!..it's here already !!!
Any tips for making sure the thing stays alive for the next ten days ?
Any tips (humorous preferred) for how to convince the owner that is it still alive should it decide to do the back crawl on the cage floor ?

LOL..Make sure to cover it if you need sleep.. LOL if they are anything like parrots and cockatiels they are noisy in the late hours!

don't think they have budgies in the Dominican republic ,i think they have tarantulas if thats any good

If I buy a budgie outfit from a Tarntulas fancy dress shop then I might just get away with it !!

...but don't expect favourable responses if you put her in a cage with some bird toys and a bird seed to eat....though....the mirror will probably be most welcome.

Well Tom is a handsome rascal.. LOL I love his pretty green plumage! He looks like a normal parakeet! I have had several Parakeets as well as love birds.. know people who raise parrots and cockateils..
Tom does look OLd for sure.. He must be well taken care of.. did he sleep well Or not at all? LOL

I could never keep a bird in a cage like this !
He seems happy...his present owners do let him out the cage but it's not prudent for us to do this.
He has a mirror and a couple of toys, the same old food and the water.............and though I try to not anthropomorphise the little fella I just can't see how he can be content in what appears to be a pityful existence !!
just to sit there on a perch...day in day out...for 13 years !!!...and yet...the fact that he is that vast age and chirps does seem to indicate that he's a happy bird !!........and has been wonderfully cared for !

I had several birds like that when I was younger and got to feeling the same way as you.. I know longer keep them.. LOL I love to hear them and observe them these days.. which reminds me I have some pictures taken from Woodley Island on the Humboldt bay..of the Egrets!

LOL !!!.....the chirping is tranquil...but we will not get one Kadie......I don't believe in keeping birds in cages as pets and secondly...being ' pet-fre' does have it's advantages when it comes to holidays etc etc....

OH I forgot to ask! How is Tom doing at night whilst everyone is sleeping... Are you keeping him good company! He may get used to having a evening friend and suffer withdraws of a serious caliber when he returns home! LOL LOL!

Good question....he does calm down and I watch TV in the dark as he is probably not used to the lights being on so late !!
He seems to be fine !!...he chirps a lot when the kids are about !!....his owner says he is used to children as her grandchildren are always amking a fuss of him !!
