Title: What is growing out of my foot?
Post by: Michael Ly on 31/05/2008 10:44:13
Michael Ly  asked the Naked Scientists:

Hi my name is Michael and I have some foot problem that developed a few months ago.

Info:
Well a few months ago i thought it was nothing.
But than after awhile a hole began to build and the skin around the hole hardened kinda.
Than another few weeks it developed little veins or sumthing?
It had black heads and the body is white or sumthing.
There was like 6 of them i pulled about 4 of them out with tweazers by grabbing the heads and 2 / 4 of the time i bleeded.
right now my mom said i have to dig a hole into my foot of where the hole is and bleed like hell to kill the eggs.
Also pull out he remaining heads...
I dont think this will cure it even if it did.. i have high fear for pain.. just pulling out the veins made me jump and scream.
Please do u know a solution to this?
My mom told me not to go to doctor for they might do the same and charge 100 bucks to do it T_T''

A little backround on it...
well at home i dont wear slippers my mom said it might be cause my foot is dirty.
I think its growing another hole on my toe.. i see a little dent that might be growing a hole.. T_T"

erm... around the wound where it makes a wall around the black head things are hard and u can see like.. uhmm hard to explain..
but rather like the veins are spreading all around it... or like ablack bruise...and when i push on the ''bruises'' it hurts.
Please is there a cure for this? or a way for me to pull out the veins cause i can prob withstand 2 more... and another way to kill the eggs?
perhaps home made drinks? or sumthing!?? PLEASE!!

What do you think?

Verrucas

A verruca (plantar wart) is a wart on the sole of the foot. It is the same as a common wart, but the weight of the body presses it into the foot, which can be painful.

Verrucas are slightly raised and circular in shape, with a thickened rim of surrounding skin. The surface may have black dots (‘pepper-pot’ appearance). There may be several verrucas or just one.

Sometimes verrucas form clusters of small warts, called ‘mosaic warts’ – these are usually painless. In children, verrucas tend to come and go quite quickly, but in adults they can persist for several years if they are not treated.

Photos of verruccas can be found here ..

A cheap verucca treatment is suggested:-
Quote
Occlusion
Just keeping the wart covered 24 hours of the day may result in clearance.
Duct tape is convenient and inexpensive.

In children, even without treatment, 50% of warts disappear within 6 months; 90% are gone in 2 years. They are more persistent in adults but they clear up eventually.

Sounds like a volcano to me! Oh no I meant a verrucca, sorry If I alarmed you. They are viral and should be burnt off with a type of acid available from the chemist. You can also freeze them off. Both treatments are only affective if you catch them early and if you are persistant with repeating the treatments.
