Well when you took it apart were you able to put it back together,
and did you have extra parts when you were done?
What did you learn from the project?
-
I took my mind apart when I was six. To this day I have never found all the parts.
-
I've taken lots of things apart & never managed to get any back together again [:(]

I have taken apart televisions and repaired them!
VCR's also. Have had no experimentation with CD players YET!
Have taken apart radios and replaced them. Have replaced tubes in very old radios.
Alarm clocks with success
hair dryers not worth repairing only examining..
dryers ( repaired with success)
washers (also with success)
dishwashers (also with success)
my computer on several occasion several times successfully and several times beyond my understanding.
scanners, successfully
parts of cars. successfully and unsuccessfully.
Have removed and replaced house door knobs, locks etc. Also have removed car door handles on my mini van and replaced three of them that just broke off.. cheep pot metal pulls!!
weed eaters
Lawn mowers
water pumps,
wood chippers and blade replacements
record players
vacuum cleaners
Tons of things including wall sockets, electric switches, lights, Lamps, plug in sockets..LOL lots of things ..mostly successful. Have traced a short in my house wiring and identified its line but now need to learn some more about getting the new wire through all the holes without having it pulled loose from the old line while I pull the new one through attached to the old.
-
Wow. Karen you should be a repairwomen.
-
What you talking about I am a repair women.. LOL Oh Yeah I have replaced windows in my house and tore out a kitchen and helped build it back, I also can hang dry wall and build new wall after I tear the old ones down! LOL OH I built a big sturdy shed also! when I get the weeds waked around it I will post a picture! LOL I used all scrap wood two by fours so it is solid two by four laid like a brick construction. It has 1 door two widows I pulled from and old barn and I built one shelf! I have always stored Christmas stuff in there!
-
Wow. Karen is great. I just keep things clean. Which reminds me of something I need post.
-
No Not Great just getting old one learns lots as one ages and I hope that continues for a least a few more days! LOL

What did you learn from the project?
Don't let my cousin near anything I'm trying to fix
[;)]
What can I say, I'm sure every boy would take apart their toys to see how it works and then sometimes with luck put them back together.............I know I did [;)]
-
LOL every girl at least in my case! LOL
Hello Daniel Nice to see you!
-
Hello me dear [;)]
-
Hope you are taking care of your self Young man!
-
You Know the longest project I have done or spent the most time taking apart has been my own Body!..Daniel Take care of yours all of you Cause its one of those things that when you get it apart you go to order new parts and their are just not enough parts to put it back together and you try and try to rig it so It will work for a bit longer in hopes that someone will fix a part or an old used one can take its place... but the chances of old used parts are low as people like to keep them as long as possible.. LOL It's too hard to fix if you let the best machine you own continually break down and not repair it promptly and keep it tuned up.. Be careful friends.

I rebuilt a 1949 Plymouth car engine when I was 18 but wouldn't dare touch any car engine made in the last 30 year.

When I first opened the bonnet (hood) of my old Rover Sterling I could hardly recognise anything.

Thanks....I try. [:D]
-
I can't even take my shoe laces out and put them back in correctly. LoL.
-
LOL you guys are funny! How would you all get by without all the technology that we love. When things broke around here I did not have the finances to replace them all the time so I took chances and took things apart labeling everything so I could put it back together. Some things were just obvious , open it up an whoops broken belt, so took it bought a new one put it back on put it back together plugged her in in turned her on and Voila instant fix for usually anywhere from ten to 30.00 for price of the part only!
-
I can barely put a cardboard box together! I'm not mechanically inclined at all.....fortunately, I married someone & gave birth to someone (Ashley) who can repair & put stuff together for me. [:)]
-
You could do it if you had to any one can. The technology is already there for you. You just have e to not be afraid to fail. I failed many times, but what did I have to loose, the item was already broke or and I could no more afford to replace it at full cost, so why not take a shot! LOL .Just always unplug the item or unplug and turn off the power especially on the electricity itself,ie changing out plugs switches etc.
I remember one time my step dad showed up to try to fix my drier, this was before I began doing it myself. he said all thats wrong was that someone had put the wrong kind of cord on this little stackable dyer unit. and I was running 110 in the trailer I lived in there was no 22o voltage going to the trailer. He took the old plug off and tossed it to the side . he pulled out the one he brought over, plugged it into the wall and was measuring how much cord we needed to get to the wall! Then he he marked the cord with a marker, he set it down and dug through his tool box. came up and picked up the cord and clamped down on the cord with these heavy duty wire cutters, all of a sudden there was a noise, popping like a pellet gun, then weird flashing it got dark and then a loud thud!It was quiet for a moment or two then he said go hit the breaker... I ran and switched the blown breaker. When I returned he was holding his hand and the cord was smoking and lying hanging off the counter.. when I looked up again there was black smoke coming from his hand between his thumb and and forefinger his hand was all black and burnt like an burnt marshmellow..It stunk really bad I said you didn't unplug it!..he said "Yep, guess not"..then he picked the cord up pulled the plug and finished the cut wired the drier turned on the water in the sink, and held his hand under the cold water picked up the fingernail brush soaped the bristles up and scrubbed the wholly crud out of his burnt up hand. It was awful the flesh just slid off into the sink.. but he scrubbed it hard. with out flinching..Yuccccccck!
then he said do you have any save, I said nope he said what about some gauze and Vaseline.. he filled it full of Vaseline and wrapped it with gauze .. said well that should work fine.. but next time we should unplug it first...!!!
I was shocked..
-
I fixed a pencil. I broke it. And made it new again!
-
Did you sharpen it again? LOL!
-
Oh I forgot....when we built our house I installed all of the outside electrical thingys. I needed a lot of them for all of our Christmas lights and Cork said if I wanted them I had to cut them in and install them, so I did.
And, I've installed a few thermostats (but only with supervision).
-
YAYYYYYYYY! See you do it to. LOL We all do.. Just don't always think about it it like that!
I have done two or three thermostats two wall thermostat were a snap one thermo coupling inside a furnace..
-
HAHA my dad got an amazing thermostat and couldn't put it in because there wasn't enough power going to it or to much or soemthing and he didn't wanna takeh the chance of burning the house down. LoL.
And yes I did sharpen it Karen. LOl.
-
LOL thats a good repair job! lol
-
I forgot. I took my whole roof and loads of OSB's off. Replaced EVERYTHING. It looks nice now. No leaks :).
Sometime we are going to get new siding and something else.
-
Cool thats something good to do! Good skills to have!
-
Yeah it took like the whole summer. It stunk..
-
When I get the weeds whacked away from the shed I built I will take a picture. It is not a style one would normally see. I did it like a log cabin, only with free wood two by fours from the mill. they were varying pieces of fur and pine. Stacked in like a brick pattern within the frame work! It turned out very solid and quite good considering my lack of skill!. I know I could build a structure if I needed to!
-
i took apart my mind , well whats left of it
-
Good job Nic? LoL.

I need to move the cabinet to the right and repaint all the way down the hall ceiling too. Then above the fireplace I have a huge mirror that is stainless steel trimmed but I am making an oak trim to go around it. Then it should cover the funky old chimney and wall space behind the mantle!.
Its weird the house at one time had a wood burning heater stove and a wood burning cook stove just opposite the chimney behind the fireplace. They shared the same chimney! just opposite sides, So rather then to tear down the old wall I am adding 6 inches to the wall on the left side behind the fireplace. then there will be a set of wooden French doors into the dining room.. This I hope will provide a bit of separation from the living room and hopefully make the dining room more intimate and warmer!
Too the left of my chimney is a huge mess. I have a huge sewing desk that sits between my dining room and my living room. it is smothered with catch all from mail to sewing and it irritates the soup out of me! LOL! The desk would not fit into the room it was purchased for as the hall was too narrow. so I have to switch rooms with my bedroom and my son has to come up to the computer room with all his junk he has yet to come get then I will go into his room and my desk will go in that room via the French doors which will then be transported to dining room. my dining room will once again be a place of eating joy! LOL I
It will never get finished what would have taken me two weeks takes will now take me two years I don't have.. LOL so oh well. one thing at a time.. Maybe by the time I am gone, the house will be in a place where one of the kids might enjoy living here! and taking care of it!
I will take pictures as I go to torture you all! LOL and maybe ask for advice!
-
I ripped an accordian apart because it annoyed me, does that count.
-
Well What did you find inside....was it the answer for your aggravation... I wonder what the inside would look like!

Who knows I always let my kids take things apart because they learned like that! Some people do mot like it when kids take things apart as they don't always or usually put them back together. LOL But that is how they learned and they do finally get them back together.

The empire does seem to hold all the cards at that point in ones life! LOL!
-
less then 20 hours! and its coming apart lol
-
LOL You are determined to dismantle it! Just take note and put it back together after you fix the sticky key. unplug it first. It probably had something spilled between the keys and made it sticky. Use alcohol to clean with a soft cloth allow it to air dry. clean side of keys and contact lightly! UNPLUGGED!
-
12 hours!! haha no i'm jsut gonna leave it plugged in lol..yes karen lol
-
LOL SORRY!! I know I know.. but you should have been here when me step father was putting a new electrical cord on my stackable dryer unit! LOL he hooked it to the dryer, plugged it in and said see all fixed. then he said the cord is way to long so now I will shorten it so it is not in the way on the counter. LOL he then measured from the wall socket down a length of the cord and before I could say wait, he cut the big plug wire with these heavy duty electric wire cutters and everything went black except the sparks then a thud and silence...... He electrocuted himself.. LOL Not funny at the time.. burned a huge black spot in his hand around his thumb and all over his palm and index pointer fingers! charcole black and smoke that was the most horrid smell I have ever witnessed flesh burning .. awful smell!
-
haha that's funny..i'm sorry its mean, bit its funny..haha lol haha lol..

What was making the key sticky??? HUM maybe lay the top back over it and see where that part is , maybe you will see a distinct difference in the board there and know then what is not working right. maybe the switch pad electrical area is dirty or the part actually that touches the board there, it is electronic right! Take a picture if you can ryan!
-
The contacts might be sticky!
-
I just rubbed my finger over the conact part.it had indents of where i played it alot..and i got it to flatten out
-
Can you fix it! by pushing it out again or did you already!
-
It just works now lol
-
YAYYYYYYYYYYYY! Good Job! Very Good Job!!! You don't have extra parts do you?
-
I remember taking something apart as a kid.....leaving it for a few weeks and then could not put it back together because I had forgotten what on earth I had taken apart !!
-
LOL... yes I have done that even as an adult... very frustrating!!! LOL
Nice of you to admit it... most won't!
-
Nope no extra

Thats always a good sign! LOL

I have taken a few gear boxes and engines apart and quite a few vehicles that weere invloved in accidents. Always managed to put them back together again after. Helps being a mechanical engineer and a panel beater sprayer (long time ago mind.) Bet one I can remember was a mercury 130 hp 2 stroke power boat engine. Had reeds, and bearings all over the place. Never messed with a 2 stroke before either. Removed the crankshaft, starter, carbs and loads of bits besides, Threw all the bits in a big box, waited for new parts to arrive, I.E. Piston, piston rings, and gaskets. This engine was pretty complicated. Had to wait for quite a few weeks before I could find time to do the reassembly. Anyway bolted it all together and it started up first time:)
Had a washing machine a long time ago. the computer circuit board burned out. Went to a repair shop and pointed out the problem. He replied with a sharp hissing noise as he breathed in prior to delivering the numbers of pound notes I did not want to hear in the order of over a hundred bucks. I asked how much for a soldering iron and flux et, took the iron home, soldered the circuit board up and got another 4 years out of the washer :)
However my best one was taking the science literature to bits and reassembling it so it made sense in relation to trees plants, humans and animals, even the ocean currents.
Then spent some of the best years of my life applying it to the benefit of mankind.
Would I change things if I could see the struggle I would be heading for before embarking on this journey of discovery? Not a chance, I would do it all again tomorrow!

I took my very worn loose cover from my sofa apart. Took me three days to make a new one using old pieces as a pattern. looks ok - better than it did! Wouldnt have a clue with anything technical!

I too have re appolstered several sofas and chairs and ottomans.. I like to sew!
That is cool! It is not as hard as it seems.. Did you enjoy doing it?
-

Wow and this is interesting. If I ever tried to take apart and fix anything less than changing
plugs. I know they would all stay in a right mess.
-
I've taken my computer apart, was able to put it back together with a faster modem. One time I took my dad's old S10 apart. Its still in my back yard.

Me too, but it was to put in a modem and once to install a new sound card.. simple stuff but it was not bad.
I have taken apart VCR's, TV's, radios, all kinds of things.. mostly always with successful fixes. Once the electrical computer board thing was fried and I could not fix it. It was literally melted in places...

Alright today I spent the day putting together solo lights and repairing garden hoses my dog chewed the ends off from.. Lol I cut out the old parts and them. ...cut the frayed ends off and put the ends back into the hose reclamped them and voilla no leaks and all fixed..I also cleaned out my van...and worked on and installed a new wireless router card into Bobs computer and still am baffled..I have the router set up on mine with primary cable dsl and I have something wrong as his won't pick up the signal...
