My students always tell me not to do it, but it is the only reliable way for me to not forget stuff I have to do. Their logic is that if Mom says it, it is probably true. I cannot find anything on the web regarding this (at least last time I looked).
So, is writing on your hand (or other place on your skin, bad for you?
-
no. Some people write *in* their skin and still live.

Yeah, most say it gives you ink poisoning. I don't think so though. At least I have not heard anything like this. Doctors seem to have no qualms writing on their patient's bodies before surgery. I am also quite certain that any pen is tested for negative effects on humans before it is sold.

A lot of people do thing to their bodies and live. Until they die that is. And then one may ask the question whether life could have continued a few years longer had the person not been writing on his/her hand so much. Is this just a modern myth or should I be concerned about "back-of-the-right-hand cancer"? (At this point this might be a rhetorical question).

Whether they should or not, some people chew pens.
Do you think the pen makers' lawyers would let them use toxic ink?
-
It can be a tad painful when you staple the pages together.

Ok.. I can't guarantee that you won't die, but I'd stake a bet that it won't be from writing your shopping list on the back of your hand.

I guess the moms don't want to do the extra cleaning of kids and clothing that comes with writing on skin with fountain pens or biros. By telling the kids its poisonious they try to prevent it. Modern day inks are harmless unless you're allergic to the ingredients. It was quite different in the olden days, some recipes include mercury and other rather unsavory ingredients.

I had a friend who had blood infection [:(], she used to write with ink pens and markers all over her skin.
Q = was the abuse of the utensils the cause that made her ill [?]
-
Utensils = permanent marker [???]

Did she have surgery?
-

You had [???] Are you saying that she is deceased? [???][???][???]
-
Death is kinda permanent. I guess full body coverage might cause a problem. Just writing the od memo on your hand wont kill you though.

I think it is personal preference. It saves a little paper. Perhaps people will think you are weird if you have manicured fingernails and notes written on your hands.
The dose of ink is a lot less than might happen if you had a pen explode in your pocket, (or chewing on a pen and having it explode), and is likely a minuscule fracture of any dangerous amount.
