there is some speculation about 2012 being the year that the planets align them selves what effect will this have on earth we have the sun, mercury, and Venus on one side, and the moon, Jupiter, and Saturn on the other will this effect our Eco system with storms, earth quakes, hurricanes, and tsunami? i know that the rotation of earth controls the tectonic plates with these planets in line with earth will it mess up the rotation?? will it shake us around through gravitational pull?

There will be no planetary alignment in 2012. The planets will not even be close to such an alignment. It is a hoax. Also there have been planetary alignments in the past and it is not believed they affect the earth or the sun in any way.

Mind you, I see there is a theory that Earth, Moon, Sun alignment was indirectly responsible for the Titanic going down (which was almost 100 years ago - my mother was born four days later!) but I digress.
They think the unusually high tides in January of that year allowed a large number of icebergs to escape from the shallow waters around Greenland and drift off into the North Atlantic.

There was a nice alignment in April 2002 visable from the UK and I don't recall anymore disasters than usual, there is one planet that seems to have an indirect influence on the Earth by modifying the sunspot cycle see link.

There was also an unusually warm winter, which also let more of those pesky bergs loose into the North Atlantic. Lightoller was obviously right when he told the inquiries that "Everything was against us!"

Gee - that's pretty close, damn near the GPS units and well within the geostationary orbits

I think we are currently going through the Galactic plane, our Galaxy is about 2000 light years thick, about every 30 million years our solar system passes through the Galactic plane. Most people will say that there is nothing to suggest that this is a problem but others might suspect denser levels of dark matter increasing the gravitational effects on objects within our solar system that might disturb the orbits of Asteroids and send them heading towards the centre of our Solar system which is near where we are..... We know dark matter is what our Galaxy is stuck onto and we know it has huge mass or outer limits of our Galaxy would rotate faster then the centre but they do not. They say opposites attract and maybe that's exactly why all this matter as we see it has stuck onto the dark matter that we can't see. As we pass through the Galactic plane I reckon things are going to get jostled about a bit due to gravitational drag. It takes quite a while to pass through though, not a day, more like thousands of years. People say that 2012 is the year when we pass through the exact centre of the plane but as the stars are not coplaner it is very imprecise to try and calculate where this point is exactly.
I think this is where you may have got your information about some kind of alignment in 2012.
