If darkness is unmeasurable, and has no waves, but is fast, what is it?

Darkness is the absence of light.

Light waves travel at the speed of light, so I guess darkness also travels at the speed of light.

Suppose you have a string of lights. Set them to all turn off at the same time. So darkness traveled everywhere instantaneously. But that really doesn't make sense, does it? That's why it doesn't really make sense to speak of the speed of darkness, at least not in my opinion.
