Title: Any good home remedies for sinusitis?
Post by: Bass on 19/03/2009 19:34:17
I came down with one nasty cold last week, and am now suffering from sinusitus.  My wife cackles with glee as she pours salty water up my nose (old wives' tale?), but I don't seem to get quite the same entertainment value out the whole experience.

Any good home remedies for blocked sinuses?

(especially those that don't involve injecting anything into multiple orifices). [:0]

Find a steam room and throw some menthol on the steam generator. Sit out and enjoy.

Thanks MIL, I've noted that the pain subsides when I get steamed...

When I was a kiddlipop, we used to clear the airways with Hill's Balsam in steaming water in a bowl. Put your head over the bowl and a towel over your head and the bowl to trap the steam and breath deep.

Used to end up looking a boiled lobster, but it did do the trick.

Vick's VapoRub!

I have had a nasty chest infection (haven't gotten much work out as a result, as you may have noticed) so I have been drinking plenty of fluids and taking suphedrine (as well as an antibiotic.) The steam does help. But the camphor-enriched Vick's really does the trick.

Don't have a steam room, or any menthol-- so I substituted as best I could:

Found an old sneaker and figured that if the shoe stench could peel paint it should be able to loosen up a bit of sinus muck.  Forcefully inserted into the wife's best tea kettle (actually in several pieces), filled with water, then heated.

Plan was working until distracted by a phone call.  About the time I returned to the stove, the fire alarm went off and my wife returned from town.  House still smells like burned tires (I forget- tyres [;D]).

Good news is that my sinuses cleared up (I think it was from all those tears after being beat with the kettle??). [:0]

This time tested, natural massage technique have been used in China for centuries to relieve and prevent sinus problems, nasal congestion and blocked, stuffy noses.

Herr's the way;

Rub your hands together to warm them up. Use the palm of one hand to rub the tip of your nose in a circular motion, 15-20 times, then another 15-20 times in the opposite direction. Do this several times a day for sinus problems, nasal congestion and stuffy nose, and regularly as a preventative.

Hi mate,

I suffer from sinuses and i find chewing on raw garlic and ginger to help me quite a bit!
Not sure of the exact science behind it but have come across others trying this out.
Give it a go and see if it works.

Hope you get over the sinuses!

Charlie

You could try sinusoothe nasal spray. It contains essential oils that have been clinically proven as being effective against bacterial infections. I myself tried this after fighting a chronic sinus infection for five years and within ten days the infection was gone and I no longer had sinus headaches, sinus pain, dizziness etc. Unfortunately the pharmaceutical medications I tried did not work.

For anybody suffering from sinus. I always suggest them this simple and easy to use a home remedy. Follow the steps below:

1. Take a fresh onion
2. Cut it off into small pieces
3. Take a warm glass of water
4. Now eat small pieces of onion with a small amount of sugar.
5. Drink warm water directly after that.

Doing this 3-4 times a week gives relief from sinus.

At least it gave me relief!
