Title: why doesn't rain hurt?

If rain falls from clouds that are high, why dosen't it hurt when it hits me?

hail hurts! i bet it's because it's liquid when it rains. and liquids are... liquidy

The terminal velocity of the raindrops is not very high because they have a high surface area in relation to their mass.
when they aggregate and freeze into hail they can certainly hurt or even kill!

Ordinary rain cannot cause you any real harm, so little point in your body raising any pain alarms over it.  If we had evolved into a species that could allow itself to be harmed by raindrops, we would have died out long ago (with the first rain shower), so the only remaining species on the planet (aside from those that live underwater, or underground) must be species that are not harmed by rain.
