Karen - the capybara is the world's largest rodent (the only rodent larger than a beaver) and, like the beaver, they are semi-aquatic. They can grow to 2' high & weigh 100lbs. If you happen to meet 1, speak to it in Spanish as they hail from S America.

OH MY GAWWWWWWWWWWWWWD Those are HUUUUUUUUUUGE 100 LBS on may goodness.. I cannot believe how much bigger they look their. Are they friendly critters!
-
Yeah, they certainly make hamsters look like wusses! [:D]
I wouldn't say they're HUUUUUGE, though. A male European beaver (castor fiber) can top 75lbs. That's about 50% bigger than the North American beaver (castor canadensis) which rarely exceeds 45-50lbs; although they have been known to reach 60lbs.
Capybara are not overly aggressive; they're more likely to run away. But I wouldn't advise trying to walk into the middle of a wild herd in the mating season. [;D]
-
Wow what kind of a tooth system do they have rippers or grinders?
-
awww - look at the pics on this page http://www.earlham.edu/~martilu/capybarapage.htm (http://www.earlham.edu/~martilu/capybarapage.htm)
And look at the teeth in this skull. Check the front incisors! (https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2FDoctorBeaver%2Fcapyskull.jpg&hash=2d8cb5be4e5e9a672d0ceced2785c74c)
-
Id say those are some pretty good rippers. and them grinders ought to make chewing the catch up even more thorough after they have it!
How would you like to have that set of chompers sunk deep into your leg?
-
Are they vegetarians I would think by the teeth they were carnivores am I wrong?
-
I also like Pineapples !!
