Asteroid Protection by Cloaking the Planet?
«

Science keeps advancing cloaking technology to make objects invisible to light, electromagnetic energy, to sound, wind, earthquakes etc. The eventuality presented speaks to making objects invisible to just about anything, bullets, explosives, why not asteroids? If we cloaked the whole planet would that protect us from asteroids and the random space invader?

Not to be a wet blanket, But if you cloak the planet wouldn't you lose the effects of gravity. We could end up sailing away into outer space, that could be bad for 365 day year.

Why would you think that gravity would be negated?

You start out your statement with the visible spectrum, then you add in the Electromagnetic spectrum, Sound, wind, and earthquakes. These are 2 different processes the visible and the physical, and asteroid would be physical and affected by gravity. It does not see the earth and say, oh boy let's hit that, it is drawn in by gravity. If you're cloaking device is going to affect planetary gravity to stop the asteroid from being drawn in it will also affect our rotation around the sun, and the orbit of the moon. This of course would affect tides, and a few other problems.
