Title: How do you calculate the melting point of water at different pressures?
Post by: siewwen168 on 21/12/2004 10:05:52
Given that the melting point of water at 218 atm is 1.61 Celcius degree,and at 1 atm,the melting point is 0 celcius degree.[:)][:)]

what is the melting point of water at 0.5 atm?can anyone show the calculation step by step?[:D][:D]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celsius

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atmosphere_(unit)

---------------

Melting point at   1 ATM is    0

melting point at 218 ATM is 1.61

What is it at 0.5ATM?  What is it at 50,662.5pa?

1 = 0 . 218 = 1.61 if there is a relationship then

1.61 / 218 = 0.007385'C

a 0.007385'C per ATM unit.

0.007385 / 2 = 0.003693'C shift for each 50,662.5pa

So at 0.5ATM Water might melt at minus 0.003693'C "degrees Celius"
