Aside from pathological factors, your basal metabolic rate [BMR] reflects your level of fitness, your age and sex.

example: Sedentary and/or overweight individuals will have a slower BMR than that of a runner. Likewise, the BMR for a child would be faster when compared to the BMR of a senior citizen.
