Title: If I Freeze A Fizzy Drink..and Then Defrost It..Will It Still Be Fizzy ?
Post by: neilep on 15/11/2007 13:11:49
Dearest Effervescent Drink Imbibers,

Here's a contemporary ad for a rather well known fizzy drink !

 [ Invalid Attachment ]

If this rather fetching babe decided to freeze her happy drink then defreeze it later...will it still have it's fizz ?

I realise I could do this myself but I also want to know if the fizz has gone..then why has it gone ?..where did it go ?

I like the cherry version too. [:)]

Please don't try to freeze your fizzy drink. I tried that one  when I was six (a can of cola), and my mother made me very much regret it. However if you did do it, it would become very obvious where the fizz gets to. I recall there being a bit of a bang and a hell of a black mess in the freezer.

Quickly takes six pack out of the freezer !..what about if I pour some fizzy goodness into a bag...?...or how about an ice cube tray ?...or something with a bit of ...give ?

I expect the can exploded because of the natural expansion of the water in the can !...or do you think the gas contributed to it too ?

I think the gas definitely had to do with it, given the can had to explode with some violence. I suppose if you had something very expandable it might work, but don't quote me :P. Maybe you could try it with something without a lid (preferably not glass). Or for a little extra fizz (pun absolutely intended) seal a balloon over the container...if you have enough room in your freezer for it.

If you had a strong enough container to take the pressure then yes. On the other hand that would take an unusually robust container. If the container started off say half full then the expansion of the water on freezing wouldn't matter and you could do it but I don't think I plan to bother any time soon.

You can freeze fizzy drinks alright IF they're in a plastic bottle. [;D]

Just don't open the bottle until the WHOLE lot is defrosted. Once it's all nice an liquid again, open the bottle top real slowly. The gas is still there and in an extreme hurry to get out. What you're left with in the end is pretty flat fizz - which, in the case of coke is still great to shine up your coppers  [;D]
