Is there a difference between charging from the mains and charging from USB?

Graham Verity from GP Batteries - There isn’t a difference. I mean, the USB probably doesn’t in some circumstances have the ability to give quite as much power to the charge, but generally speaking, the USBs you have on your computer will charge in roughly the same time.

Both a mains charger and a usb socket will give your phone 5V depending on the specs of both the current they provide will be different so the rate of charging can be different, between chargers and USB sockets.
More modern USB sockets will give more current, but some older ones particularly on laptops don't give much
