David Mantell asked the Naked Scientists:
Is there a cure for tinnitus
What do you think?
-
Some tinnitus is triggered by hearing loss from excessive exposure to loud sounds. There are also some medications which can cause it. Avoiding both should reduce the chances of getting tinnitus.
If you have tinnitus, there are various therapies, like hearing aids to make the desired sound louder than the tinnitus, playing sounds that mimic the tinnitus, or various counselling techniques.
But no real cure at this time - perhaps because some permanent damage to the ears has already been done?
