Does anyone know which foods can irritate babies through breast milk? I've heard, cabbage, beans, onions, caffeine & bananas - any others to add?......and why/how does this happen ?

AWWWWWWWWW cute piccy!
Broccoli always gave my children gas when I ate it.. they would get very painful gas...same with the cabbage, beans, onions, etc.. on your list.. They all cause the same effect with me and I suspect it is the nature of the food.. and all that goes into the milk when breastfeeding as far as I know... asparagus can also cause the milk to taste odd as my husband can attest too! LOL Broccoli too.. Breast milk has peculiar taste depending on what mom eats!

Alcohol is a big no no, I'm afraid.

according to the lactation specialist at the hospital, spicy foods of any kind can cause baby heartburn. i may have done it to get back at him if i had been able to breastfeed...lol.

Everything that you consume, the baby consumes - is the mantra these days.
Women of who eat spicy foods generally (like in India) still eat their curries etc.. (though I have been told that some will 'tone it down')
Lots of 'no-no's' don't last in your system very long anyway.. caffeine is one (although new research suggests caffeine is good for babies (studies were done on premature babies IIRC)
