Title: Snow good
Post by: Make it Lady on 03/02/2009 21:19:28
We have just had two snow days. The kid's schools have been shut and I was told not to go into work. The village has been alive. Families have been spending time with each other, kids that all go to different secondary schools have been mixing it up and making stronger friendships, I have had time to be with friends that I see fleetingly once a week and the pubs and shop have had lots of customers that would normally go into town. It has been like Christmas without the relatives. Has anyone else had a similar good time or are you banging on the school gate and bemoaning the closures.

(Un)fortunately I'm pretty used to the snow, so that sort of stuff doesnt really happen as much. Most of the time people are just grumbing about having to shovel themselves out of the driveway, then the a*hole snow plow goes by and blocks you in again...

The occasional snow day is always fun.. snowball fights with friends, tobogganing or snowmobiling, hot chocolate, grilled cheese and tomato macaroni soup... i really hope it snows tonight.

Don_1, where were those photos taken? I'm not sure if I recognise it.

We had BUCKETS of snow! We had to drive back to London on the sunday night, but the roads were worse than awful - blizzard conditions meant you couldn't see ahead, and snow on the ground meant you couldn't see the road, let alone the lanes! Was very hairy. Even the M11 was the same. Took 3 hours to do a 90 min drive, and when we got back to East London, we couldn't get up the hill to the flat! Had to dump the car in a nearby side-street, where it still is. It's still too icy to get it out of there!

I decided to work from home on monday, as knowing the London transport system, I could easily have got to work in time for all services to cease, and end up stranded 10 miles from home! Work called and said they'd closed the office anyway. We do the type of work that can just as easily be done remotely, so it made sense.

Went for a nice walk around the village and Epping Forest. Lovely.

It's All Saints Church in Nuxley Village, Upper Belvedere, just south of the river from you.

I have a client at an exhibition closing at the NEC tonight, got to go there to get their stand out and into another exhibition at Olympia first thing Friday morning. So I'm leaving London's thaw for Birmingham's fresh snow fall!

NUTS!!!

Very nice, I must be imagining things, but I've never been there! Not a frequent visitor of the 'sarf' (except when I worked at Kings at London Bridge!)

Still haven't been able to rescue our car! The slope up to the car park is sheet ice, and the side-road that we left the car on is just as bad. It's only a little thing, better wait methinks.

I have been in the snow once.. in the Rocky Mountains In Colorado..

I have never been so cold in all my life... it's a good thing I live where 'cold' is no lower than 10 Celsius.

A lady in Bristol was on the news moaning because she had 12 inches in one hour. I didn't get any inches today, I would have been happy with one or two inches. 12 ehh! lucky Bristol.

Thanks, Karen the cats are fine now and hate the freezing coldness of the snow's wetness
on their paws.
Also the day (Monday) that I took my photo it was snowing so hard that I'd let them out
to see just how the cats coped. They didn't so I kept them in. Safer than losing them
to hypothermia, (yes even cats can die from it).
But they've been out since Thursday and it's thawing now.

Karen, I hope so and since the tortoiseshell (female) cat is a short cat, she was finding
it very hard to walk through the snow, also it took ages to get her warm again, that
was partly why I kept them.
Not today as it's raining so thawing out the snow at last.

The cats are friends to me as well, loving as well.
