3 times now I have experienced the sparkles in the peripheal fields of view in both eyes. This lasts for about 30 minutes or longer. The sparkles come out of nowhere and accompany a headache, some nausea and the inability to concentrate. Then follows: a loss of peripheal vision in one or bother eyes for at least 10 minutes, and fatigue that usually is severe enough to warrant a nap or compares to a feeling of wooziness. The first time was 14 years ago when I was pregnant. Same symptoms, but also I could not read and I stuttered. I could not recognize the words I was speaking. The second instance was 2 years ago. I had the migraine, the sparkles, the dizziness, and then slurred speech. I could not understand my own language and became emotionally upset as did my children when they could not make out what I was saying. The third time was today. First the headache, then the sparkles whether my eyes were open or not. Then came the nausea and the loss of peripheal in my left eye. After the sparkles left...I had complete vision in my right eye but the left had no peripheal for about 10 more minutes. The overall feeling of wooziness and sickness lasted a total of about 1 hour. To correct the headache I took 2 Exedrine Migraine tablets and 1 NoDoz for extra caffeine. Then I ate lunch and gradually felt better though I had to lay down. I was not overly hungry. I did not exert myself. Does anyone know what this is and what the long term prognosis is?

Sounds just an extreme migraine. Sounds unlikely to be a stroke.

Migraine has those as part of the signs and symptoms however, such symptoms are better differentiated from Amaurosis fugax which is a form of transient ischaemic attack and a stroke symptoms.

I'd also advise you to see an apthalmologist to check out you retina as such flashes of light are also symptoms of retinal detatchment.
