Title: unknown substance
Post by: bigfluffyz on 29/07/2006 21:28:32
when dry the substance is a brown color feeling and looking like the crumbled remains of an art eraser (the brownish looking ones that are in every highschool) but when placed into water the substance becomes almost perfectly transparent leving hardly any shadow and the only way for you to know that its not disolved is that it has expanded to about 10 times its size and feels like a solid spounge to the touch. These peices were found in a amish neck towel that you soak in ice cold water and wrap around your neck this substance manages to stay very cold for about an hour in very hot weather.

Big Fluffyz, I deleted your 2nd copy of this topic. They were identical and had no response as of yet!

In regards to your post, I have bought something like those to wear around your neck in the heat. these are cloth tubes filled with said substance and when soaked in water for 30 to 60 minutes, they swell staying nice and cold for an extended amount of time. They work well, although I must say I do not know what the substance is inside of them, maybe someone can help you if that is your Question. It would probably be wise for you to pose a Question with your statement about said substance!.......Karen

To be fair, I could not work out if it was a question of a sales pitch ([particularly since there were two copies of it) – but I thought I'd give it the benefit of the doubt for the time being (since there did not seem to be any links or other obvious ways of pushing a purchase).

Karen it dosent take long to get used to it, and once you make a mistake like editing someone else's post you tend not to do the same thing again.[:)]

Also the back arrow rectifies most errors if you catch them early enuf.

So long as it only spells disater, and not disaster – we'll be OK on the spelling then [:D]

BTW, yes, I too keep on hitting the edit button rather than the reply button – but since I almost always compose the replies in a word processor, I pretty soon notice that that the quote tags are missing from the original.

Thanks george for the help here, I really do have an education! I am just a really bad typist. I have graduated from two fingers to all of them. Now I have to make sure I don't get my fingers ahead of my brain! Kind of like my mouth sometimes it gets ahead of my brain also. I tend to speak before I think. Not good! Insert foot into mouth! You know what I mean!...hugs Karen

LOL  OKay, a few errors but I can make sense of it...not bad!  not bad at all...I am very impressed you knew my name in Francais...very nice...you do know some of what I have said before...hehe  How much French did you learn?  1 or 2 years...and I think you are magnificent too...I picked up quite a bit in Quebec City and then after that I took up some home courses....spelling is screwy too...you may notice it when I type it....it is tough when you don't use it much or anything...but have been known to speak in a few phrases at work if I don't want anyone to know...bossy discovered I knew Spanish by accident....when I looked at her when she was upset with someone and then in Spanish she said, you know what I am saying...I said, yes, I know just because I am a "white girl" does not mean I know nothing...back in Spanish as she was talking about us..she laughed and so did Lalo...I don't speak it and tell her I don't know how to speak it mucho...as she will use it to her advantage and not work period...

I took a year, but it has been over, OMG 30 years ago. I am horrible. And what I do remember are thigs like what are you doing after school or are you going to the library? I can't remember spelling well at all. I had the rosetta stone installed on my computer, then my friend for got to send the Cd over with it so I am waiting for that now. I need to remind him so I can brush up on it. My fourth grade teacher was half Japaneese and a remarkable women and she taught us much Japaneese! I remember very little, Obinto and how to count to 6. not much else. I wish I could. spanish, Ola,   small things like that and a few simple things to help kids at school. No spelling though.

Superabsorbent polymer ?:-

" Experiment: Water Jelly Crystals - Superabsorbent Polymers

Just add water and watch them grow. The white pebble-like crystals absorb tremendous amounts of water... like a water-slupring sponge. These so-called Water Jelly Crystals are actually classified by scientists as a superabsorbent polymer. Water Jelly Crystals can soak up to about 300 times their weight in water! Today, Water Jelly Crystals are being used to hold water in the soil so it can be released to plants as they need it, and they can help reduce watering demands of plants by up to 80% in drought conditions. That's water-saving science! "
