Why are galaxies brighter at the center?

Because the stars are more densely packed there. Round where we are in the galaxy there are typically 300 cubic light years for every star. Nearer the centre they can be ten or even one hundred times denser than this. even at this density the probability of two stars colliding id infinitesimally small
