Title: My Phone slowly slides off my tablet
Post by: Dasvidanya on 28/04/2013 09:54:33
Hello

I recently brought a Galaxy S4, and last night before going to bed i put it on my bedside table ontop of my iPad... a few moments later i was startled by a bang and saw that my S4 had fallen on the floor, i put this down to me knocking it and put it back on the device... again it happened, so this time i put my phone else where and went to sleep

This morning i checked my phone, placed it on my ipad.. and then heard it hit the floor a little while later, this time i was pretty sure something odd was happening (and not just the rivalry between Samsung and Apple)

I did some testing, i switched the phone off and it still happend, i switched the iPad off as well and it stopped. The back of the phone (and the iPad screen) is very smooth and i noticed placing the phone on its cover stopped this happening as well. The bottom right of the iPad and the bottom right of the S4 both seem to be attracting each other, but to the point where the phone falls off the side.

My suspicions are that some electromagnetic device is stored in the corner of these devices and the lack of surface tension is causing it to slide across... any one got any ideas if this sounds about right or know exactly why?.... other wise i guess it is probably just aliens...

Many Thanks

Kevin

If your phone vibrates it could move via slip-stick (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stick-slip_phenomenon).

It could be oscillating (vibrate is not on) but then it still happened when i turned the phone off, unless the iPad is doing that too

Some of the ipads have a hard-drive. Hard-drives have a strong magnet.

Brother just sent me this link, says he Nexus 4 does it as well ...clearly not alone!
Could be the hard drive in the ipad, which might explain why it still happened when phone was off...unless it was "running down"

It could be that something- perhaps the central heating or ventilation, is shaking the whole house slightly, but the only noticable effect is the phone

If there is some sort of motor spinning in the phone which is slightly off balance, like the vibrate-motor, or maybe a vibrating gyroscope (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwe6LEYF0j8), it could cause the phone to move like a bristle-bot ...

Apple are very devious. They have clearly incorporated a device that detects and disposes of Samsung's products :-)
