Title: The Candy Man
Post by: MDriver1981 on 28/02/2009 06:21:18
In the 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory there is a scene at the beginning where this overzealous "Candy Man" keeps tossing free candy to children- in somewhat normalcy.  How can this be done?  How can a person establish a business plan that consists of giving away a lot of free stuff?

Wow... if only the world of today is as it was in that film.  A world obsessed with a candy company, more so than territorial wars and financial meltdowns.

How can a person establish a business plan that consists of giving away a lot of free stuff?

Could be free samples initially to get customers hooked, or a loss leader (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loss_leader): as part of a razorblade business model...

What Does Razor-Razorblade Model Mean?
A business tactic involving the sale of dependent goods for different prices - one good is sold at a discount, while the second dependent good is sold at a considerably higher price. Investopedia explains Razor-Razorblade Model
If you've ever purchased razors and their replacement blades, you know this business method well. The razors are practically free, but the replacement blades are extremely expensive.

The video game industry is another user of this pricing strategy. They sell the game consoles at a relatively low price, recouping the lost profits on the high-priced games.

Razor blades in chocolate would never work. Think of health and safety.

Please can I have an umpa lumpa. His face would match my new kitchen.
