The Clock Chaos And Harmony Theory By Mike Banks
The Law of Time is only relevant when you have a finite amount. The Universe has no such perception as it created its own laws to defy time and self perpetuate its own existence. (Mike Banks Jul 2010)
Dear all, I’m sure a lot of you lads and lasses on this site are of immense intellect. Whilst on the other hand I’m just a simple store manager. So I found it quite unusual to have, what one may call a eureka moment in the middle of the shop floor, whilst watching a pair of pendulum clocks. I therefore wish to relate to you my very simplistic view of what I saw and my interpretation. I would like you to ponder the potential credibility of the theory. If creditable how would one then interpret this from a more scientific and mathematical view point?
Observation
I was stood watching two different pendulum wall clocks situated next to each other. At first I didn’t think anything of the pendulums, as both appeared to be out of sync with each other, but as I watched them I observed a pattern emerge.
The pendulums are of different lengths and their movements were in, what I will call, a state of chaos for a period of time, 30 seconds. Travelling in various opposites for this period. But then what I saw was that they slowly came into sync and moved in unison for a period of time, 7 seconds. I call this the state of harmony. This pattern is repeated continually, and I presume it will continue to do so as long as they have a core power sourse.
Theory
It struck me, that what I was observing was possibly our own universe in motion in micro-cousume. The universe started with a big bang, causing our universe to expand and develop. This would be a period of chaos, or at least a point within the 30 seconds of chaos. What then has followed, as the universe aged and settled, is the period of harmony as it entered the 7 seconds of sync, were all things become feasible within the laws of physics. The universe is in sync and life will flourish. However as with all things, the laws of physics will win out. Gravity, takes over and the universe will start to collapse into itself, the recommencement of chaos, until it reaches and completes it cycle of 30 seconds. At this point the laws of physics combine to reignite the big bang to commence its cycle of chaos and harmony all over again. The Universe will continue to do this until the source of its power is depleted. I suppose the two pendulums could equate to mass and energy, which seem to govern so much within our known universe and when in sync produce a harmonious effect within it.
Conclusion
I suppose this is a very simplistic overview, but I consider the clock theory to mean all things have a cycle and that all things are predominately in a state of chaos. This is then punctuated by only limited periods were all is in sync and therefore in harmony, be it the clocks, or the powerhouse that is the universe.
Additional points to mull over.
However, if the universe is an entity that has a cycle of chaos and harmony and is there for in a constant state of self perpetuation would this make the universe the ultimate recycling plant? Other considerations would then come to bear such as:
• Is this the first cycle the universe has been through? Or is it just one of many that have gone before.
• If then other universes have in the past occupied the same space, would traces be left behind and, like rings on an ageing tree, could we ever hope to count these previous expansions.
• What, if anything, could or would indicate a previous cycle of chaos and harmony.
• We measure light over time and space. Could light from a previous universe have escaped the collapse prior to the big bang and if so would it be theoretically possible to find this, then measure its age, and source.
• Finally, if we accept that in this universe we are not the only intelligent life form that exists, then I would presume it would be accepted that in previous universes other such life forms have also existed and flourished during the periods of harmony. As with all life forms it is a natural thing to want to cling to life and survive at all costs, or for species such as ours to, at the very least, be remembered for what you have achieved. To leave a legacy. If we knew that our end as a species was inevitable, or more likely imminent, but knew the universe would be re generated from the chaos of collapse, how hard would we try to leave a legacy that would be found or recognized in a future universe? What would or could we do that would survive such a cosmic powerful event as the big bang. Or, would the forces be just so great as to cancel all before and start again with a clean slate without any clues as to the passing of time from one Universe to the next.
Kind Regards
Mike Banks

The same thing with the pendulums constantly having a similar motion annoys me to no end with car blinkers. If only car companies would set all their blinkers on the same timers, but alas- corporate America affords no respite to the OCD.
In response to your observations:
First, the pendulums never actually swung at the same rate, but the difference in tempo was too minute for a small period of time for you to notice;
Second, most mainstream science shows the universe's growth is accelerating due to anti-gravitational forces;
Third (And finally), your theorem seems to be an acknowledgement of a pattern of growth and deterioration. Animal and plant populations prosper in an environment and multiply exponentially until they reach the carrying-capacity of that environment- prompting an evening out of breeding. Stars grow and collapse, as do empires. You did indeed find a pattern, you are just applying it to an odd selection of observations

Mike that's very good that you took the time to think this through and partook in some creating thinking. Actually there already exists a theory in cosmology about the big bang repeating over and over again some of the reasoning is to do with the nature of black holes and their decay via hawking radiation.
Although as Stefan said the expansion of the universe is considered to be by some unknown repulsive force it has not yet been proven or verified and remains a key point in cosmological research at present dark energy is believed to be the missing factor.
If indeed as your theory about a recycling universe is true, it would be very hard to prove as when the universe re collapses then everything effected by gravity would also be brought back into the void and recycled, so we would have to search for a type of fingerprint that is unaffected by gravity, although this does not mean the idea is valid or invalid.
Unfortunately cosmology is in its infancy in terms of being able to describe the universe as a whole and there are a lot of interesting concepts out there but knowing the right one is another question indeed.
Hope this was of some help.

Mike your observations are good and your thinking demonstrates many ideas that have been observed and tested from several hundred years ago right up to now. To go into them and explain them all in detail would require me to write a good sized text book on these pages. I assume from some of your statements that you are not particularly trained in physics and astronomy but have seen some popular science programmes on TV (my apologies if I am wrong). I would encourage you to get some good text books on the subject and read through them to increase your understanding of the topic. Now to return to your observations and thoughts. What you described was the phenomenon known a "beats" between two oscillators of a close but not exactly the same frequency that are not coupled together. If there is a very slight coupling between the oscillators even more interesting things can happen. If you would like to know more about this read "sync" by Seven Strogatz this will tell you all about complex oscillators with different sorts of coupling and their place in everything from High finance to cosmology.
Finally the hard bit. Your theory just does not fit the facts as they stand and you describe them but I must encourage you to continue to observe think and learn from others (preferably reputable scientists because there is a great deal of pseudo scientific rubbish posted on the web).

Hi Murchie 85 & Soul Surfer. Thanks for your contributions. You are right Soul surfer I have no formal scientific trg, purely a concepts and theory's man I'm afraid. I have always been fascinated by space and yes I do like SIFI. However, I do not consider the points I raised were based on anything Ive seen in a movie or star trek. but now you mention it, may be I have stumbled upon a great idea for a great film or book. Ive certainly got some food for thought and both your ideas about things to study will be very helpful. My observations were purely based upon what I saw in front of me, all be it, a bit of a leap from moving pendulums to the constant perpetuation of the universe. If I'm honest the whole thing started as my way of entertaining my staff during a quite period once I had seen the pendulums move in and out of chaos over a set sequence. The more I thought about it though the more it seemed the most obvious answer. If mass and energy are the powerhouse that drives the universe it is surely gravity the weakest of all that still binds it together, so I am now quietly convinced that at some stage the universe will come back to it original singularity to recomecne the process anew. Also if the universe came into existence from a singularity as people believe, and the universe has radiated out from that event why then is it not theoretically possible to trace that original point in space. It would be really great if some one with the necessary intellect could put my theory into some sort of formula. Again thanks to both of you for taking the time to respond.

Mike, you should go to get Brian Greene's
the Fabric of the Cosmos
from the nearest bookstore- I am sure you would thoroughly enjoy it. Oh, and one last comment:
Because space was all created by the Big Bang, there is no particular point in space where the Big Bang began.

Stefand, thanks for the book choice however, waterstones did not have it but are getting it next week. So I got 'why does E=mc2?' by Brian Cox & Jeff Forshaw. Seems to be writtten in almost plain english, should be able to follow that, fingers crossed. I got feed up waiting for someone else to put my theory into a sort of model, so did my own. Post it later.

Hi Rami, thanks for the encouraging words and thoughts. Have started to look in my initial observation's and I am reading a lot of new information. As one would expect there is a lot of information out there and some of it appears to be contradictory. I'll just keep plodding away at it. Again thanks
Kind Regards
Mike

It's interesting that you made the conclusions you did, since there was little data to go on. These conclusions seem to be " in the air " nowadays and many people on forums like this bring them up with respect to various phenomena they observe. I think the interest in scientific investigations has people thinking about what it all means and they seem to be tending towards the same theme. For example, the search for extraterrestrial life is turning up zilch and the question of why we should be the only inhabitants of the universe is generating speculation about life's purpose with respect to the universe. In particular, the idea that the first civilization that pops up in a universe somehow destroys it, so we never see any evidence of prior or contemporary life. My theory is that the universe is destroyed and recreated by the creation of the Higg's particle, as described in Brian Greene's book. The Higg's particle is being sought at the Large Hadron Collider in Europe.
