Title: What's happening at the LHC?
Post by: Magnus W on 05/04/2011 03:30:02
Magnus Westberg  asked the Naked Scientists:

Hello Chris and the naked scientists

thank you for a great podcast (http://www.thenakedscientists.com/HTML/podcasts/) i´ve listened to all your episodes,

My Question:

How´s it going at the large hadron collider? I hear a lot about what the want to do and find, but have they actually made any scientific discoverys since they started?

Magnus Westberg listening in Sweden

What do you think?

Even not finding any is a step forward. The other way is theory, building on theory :) A rather shaky ground to stand on, don't you agree? This one is interesting Beautiful theory collides with smashing particle data. (http://www.nature.com/news/2011/110228/full/471013a.html) combined with this, dated a week later. “First Measurement of W+W− Production and Search for Higgs Boson in pp Collisions at √s = 7 TeV”. So far they have yet to create a black hole since we're all still alive.  Also, no progress on discovery the higgs field.  They are mostly still working out the bugs in the equipment.
