Title: Medical Challenge, Week 2
Post by: hawaiilover on 07/06/2007 08:48:22
In case anyone missed it, the answer to week 1's challenge was Jaundice caused by alchohal induced Cirrhosis of the liver.

Here is this week's challenge.

Patient is 47 year old male suffering from joint pain, shrunken testicles and darkening of skin.

Upon taking medical history it is discovered that patient's father died of hepatocellular carcinoma, (liver cancer) at age 54 and his mother, now 67, has been diagnosed with abnormal heart rhythym.

Blood tests indicate elevated serum iron levels, (transferrin saturation is 57%)

Ok, that should be enough to name the disease or condition.

Here is how points will be awarded this week:

1 point for naming the disease or condition first.
1 point for explaining the cause, ( for example fungal infection, trama, genetic ect.)
1 point for prescribing correct treatment

good luck all

Chris would have made it 100%
but he's not been around...
for a while.

It's not exactly a 'fair play'!
