Mixing your drinks seems to increase the chance of alcohol poisoning and the longevity of the hangover. My longest hangover lasted three days. It was my leaving do when I left Japan. A bottle of sherry, beer, whiskey and then Sake. Followed by unconciousness, vomiting, more vomiting, yet more vomiting, bed spinning and then three days of sickness, headache and dehydration. Not recommended. It is not funny or big.

As a hijack question, why does the bed spin around when you lie down after a drinking session and why can you stop the bed spinning by lying on a different side or holding onto the side of the bed.

I am glad I do not imbibe alcohol. Sounds like your leaving do was spiffingly fun !...full of norty going ons' and happy joy !

I was wondering if alcohol differs within each drink it resides you see.......so, if you took the alcohol out of each drink would it be the same composition ?.

hmmmmm...hope you get the spinny bed thing answered !!

some alcohol is higher  alcohol content and  often my husband said wine could give you a nasty one.. and it does but he also agrees mixing will kill you off.. especially if you don't drink tons of water at the same time.. dehyration is a huge reason for feeling terrible.. the doc at the hospital told us that pumping in water to keep my son hydrated after an incident at a rodeo was what kept him alive and too awful pain free.. .. long story.. anyway.....

he says it seems like higher alcohol content would cause worse dehydration so he thinks any alcohol can be equally bad depending on your water consumption.. but higher alcohol content with hard liquor might dehydrate you faster and worse leaving you sicker!

As the amounts of different chemicals (such as tannins or methanol) will vary between drinks, the hangovers will vary too.  Whether or not the effects of alcohol override everything else, I'm not quite sure.

I don't remember - seriously. I my wayward youth I drank anything and everything I could get my hands on. My idea of a chilled martini was a half gallon of Tanqueray gin with a half cap of vermouth added (very dry) and put in the freezer before leaving for work. The whole thing would be consumed that evening. Needles to say I quit once my health got to the breaking point. I never found any difference except between a wine vs beer-liquor hangover. The dehydration of wine seems to be more serious in my experience.
