Title: Dimensions
Post by: Eric Southern on 30/11/2012 01:09:25
One night 4 years ago I was fast asleep just after 3am. I was woken by a bright light in my dark room. On opening my eyes I was amazed to see the room was still in darkness-the light was coming from the foot of my bed. Standing there was a young boy.He was so bright, solid and clear as if he was standing in bright sunlight. He was just inside my closed door an arms length away from my built in robe wall. His head was slowly moving left to right continuously as if he was scanning a distant horizon. Now this sounds strange but as god is my witness true! He was very handsome with very blond hair and the brightest light blue eyes I've ever seen. In each arm he was holding a rabbit. In his left across his chest a brown and white one-in his right against his side a grey one. I was leaning up on my elbow taking all this in, I had no feeling of fear, he most certainly was not a ghost. I spoke to him-he heard me because he turned and made eye contact. Much to my sorrow his face twisted in shear terror as if he was seeing a ghost (me) all I said to him was hello can I help you! Then poof he was gone, I kept saying please come back it's ok. Alas nothing, I put my bedside light on got up still pleading for him to come back. So I went for a drink of water turned the light out and sat for the rest of the night hoping he would return. He never did ! To me at the time the event seemed to last ages-so I counted what I took to be pretty close on the seconds hand on my watch, was suprised to see it would have been just over a minute.Imagine yourself in my situation and time a minute. It is quite a long time. I was 66 at the time and was wide awake not dreaming or imagining this as I know some will say. He was not ghostly-see through or misty but as solid as the wall he was loooking at  but seeing some distant vista instead. I can only think he had slipped in time or maybe from another dimension. Like Tom Jones said "it's not unusual (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSCnHtugSWg)" ...

Quote
Hypnagogic or hypnopompic hallucinations are visual, tactile, auditory, or other sensory events, usually brief but occasionally prolonged, that occur at the transition from wakefulness to sleep (hypnagogic) or from sleep to wakefulness (hypnopompic) ... A telephone interview of nearly 5,000 people aged 15 to 100 in the UK showed that 37% of the sample reported experiencing hypnagogic hallucinations and 12.5% reported hypnopompic hallucinations.

........... as god is my witness true!

I suppose, if you believe in ghosts and the 'supernatural', you must believe in gods too. I believe in neither.

Sometimes dreams can be so vivid that it is hard to tell them from reality. As RD points out, that moment between sleep and wake can also be filled with dreams. Our subconcious mind can play strange tricks on us.

As for the rabbits, they must have made you dream all the more hare-raising. (https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi307.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn281%2Fjoenest%2Fdoh.gif&hash=8a5bc86918b1199ce7fe6e7d96c9921b) Sorry, that was a not very bunny funny pun.

What is more likely - a vision of a real person who has moved from another dimension or your brain conjuring an image? If lots of people had seen the same image it would change the situation somewhat, but it is much more likely to be some hallucination. I had a slightly similar experience when I was about 14 years old. I was in bed and awoke to see my grandmother standing at the foot of my bed. This gave me a great surprise but not a great shocking one because she was very much alive at the time and lived in the same house. However there was something odd in that she was looking beyond me not at me. I blinked and rubbed my eyes and slowly the image dissipated. Nothing like that has happened since but I see no reason to suppose that was anything but something in my brain rather than anything external.

somnambulism is a possible explanation in that case ...

Err, no RD. My Grandmother was definitely not really there, sleepwalking or otherwise.
