As a sheepie I of course luff muzak and luff to listen to it via my headphones,

As ewe can no doubt see the wire is very curly...How is it made so curly and is there any way at all I can uncurl it so that it remains straight ?.......ewe can also probably see that the coil is attached in an unconventional way to the top of the headphones. Brownie points will be awarded to whomever can tell me why this is so ( i know why). In the mean time, please tell me how to uncurl the curly wire and maintain it in a state of un-curliness !

Ewe won't be able to straighten the curly wire because the outer plastic cover has been molded curly. Consequently, there will be much less material on the inside of the curls, and much more material on the outsides; to make the wire straight ewe would need to redistribute the material equally, but because it's plastic and molded into that shape, ewe can't.
I can only guess that the cable has been attached to the middle of the 'phones to keep them balanced, as opposed to hanging from one side only. Judging from the sellotape (or is it clingfilm?) I gather this might be a user modification.

Thanks LeeE. Bugger !!..so I can't straighten them then !...In fact, I really do appreciate your answer because i have (foolishly) been trying to straighten them...fortunately to no avail and without damage !..phew !!
The reason for the tape is because the foamy part on the inside was degrading and falling off in bits and pieces.

Thanks Geezer, I do in fact have an extension (ooooerr !) lead but like all extension adaptor thingies sometimes the connection goes all crackly and ruins enjoyment !...It's just not good enuff and I need to complain...I write to someone on a piece of card to make a stiff complaint !

You could remove the plastic, melt the metal, reshape it to your desire if it means so much ;)

Ewe want me to convert my 1/4" jack to a male/female USB mating thingy ?....yep !!..that'll do it !!

No, although I suppose you could! You'd be better to junk the jack plugs (they really are crappy) and switch to pro. (XLR?) connectors, but they are spendy.
I used the USBs as an example of how to tie the cables together so they don't waggle around! (but I'm sure you got that and you were just winding me up)

yep, xlrs indeed !...but that will mean having to do some DIY and stuff.....I'd have to get a proletariat member of staff to take care of it for me....the bottom line is...the source still requires the 1/4" jack and I'm not hacking that to pieces !...*le sigh*

I owned a couple of specialist audio stores for seven years....they were mine...mine..all mine..!!..so. yes, I kinda pinched them from my own display stand ! [:)]

erhmm..I actually have a pair of those too when watching TV...until they can do digital versions I find the RF versions still suffer from interference..and they have a limited range ....I'm a bit old fashioned ...I don't think ewe can get the quality of sound through the air as ewe can through a cable....BUT..I've been out of the loop about three years ...perhaps they have moved on in leaps and bounds.

You could try cleaning the metal part of the plug with something mildly abrasive like a Brillo pad.
This would remove any oxide layer which is reducing the conductivity and causing crackling when the plug rotates in the socket.
Alternatively, if you can dismantle the headphones, you could replace the original lead with a longer one,
e.g. cut the socket off the type of extention lead below and wire it into the headphones, (will require soldering).

Thanks RD...that is a great idea...i never thought it could be oxidation..I always thought it was just a failure in the connectivity due to wear and tear...I'll give that a go...ta..........not too keen on the fiddly botch job...I'm not so good at that but it does seem a good way to go !

I sold up fortunately....but it was really because of MP3s and on-line purchasing that started the trend away from the specialist sector. I saw that and made a very wise decision to sell up in 2005....it was the best decision I made, unfortunately one of the stores has now closed and the other one is, I fear, going the same way. The audiophile market is just too small to maintain them profitably. I also got fed up doing two hour in store demonstrations only for people to go and buy their equipment elsewhere. LOL..one person I spent half a day with even had the audacity to bring back a faulty item he had purchased elsewhere (that I had demonstrated to him) and expected me to deal with him..I politely showed him the door.
Price is king nowadays, service counts for sod all !!
