Title: Can you help me determine what this sharp pain is?
Post by: Karen W. on 14/04/2009 05:06:25
Ok.... Is has happened several times over the years once or twice every couple months. It has always went away as far back as I can remember but always subsided within a few seconds... so here this last week It has occured 5 or 6 times each time lasting longer. I strikes extremely sharply in my right ear only towards the front, then into the temple on the right and at the same time approximately two inches down from where they entered into my femoral artery (for my angiogram...) and my right groin and upper thigh.....kinda inside center same incredibly sharp pain... so bad I find myself coiling up and applying great pressure to all areas.... leaves a lingering pain in my right temple and leg . It never hits the left side at all. never has in my life.

Does any one know what this is from and what I should do they have become more frequent and last longer. They are terrible but they go away.... they just seem to be lasting about 2 and 1\2 minutes compared to the old 30 seconds...It is not good.

Any one have any ideas..
was doing nothing strenuous....whoops maybe not ..I just finished trying to get some cleaning done... and was resting with feet up.

I have had them since I was a tiny child but have never had the doctor diagnose them... they have never even tried.

Any Ideas would be appreciated to try to eiminate them! They are horrible!

That's really quite strange; simultaneous acute pain in 2 different areas, but always the same areas. It makes me wonder if there's some kind of trapped nerve or other kind of stimulus somewhere where the nerves leading to these areas may somehow be connected? Completely hypothetical, please don't think I know what I'm talking about! I only say this because sometimes I get an itch on my leg, and when I scratch it, the itch appears without fail in teh same place every time on my back. It leads me to believe that there are connections between nerves in different parts of the body.

Trapped nerves are funny things. I had an operation on my neck when I was young to release a tendon, and occasionally a nerve gets trapped (well, I assume its a nerve) and moving my head or jaw becomes incredibly painful, I basically can't move at all or even breathe properly. The only way to get rid of it is to move my neck in a very specific way, or press down on my neck in a certain place, and then it's gone instantly.

yes...I think it is weird.. I muat say I know they are connected as it is as if it travels from the ear area into my upper leg groin area ....t is always the same pain and sharp intensity it is just lasting longer...... pain never chamges its site.. it is the very same placs every time!

I am sorry about your Jaw! It sounds terrible! It being like mine has a certain procedure to illiminate the pain... or ride it out.
I am not sure about why it happens... my suspicion hasa been that it is heart related perhaps nerve endings hat were severed when My fist sugery was performed! I was very nearly cut in half for the first one from front sternum around under the breast and up under shoulder blade and to the middle of my back. So a lot of nerves were severed.

It could be anything but I am worried that no one knows what it is and wonder if I should contact a neurologist?

Was hoping that describing it would catch someones eye and perhaps they might have experienced the same pains and I could maybe find a direction to go with it....ya know?

 Thanks Fishy...

It's a long shot (and not normally seen in more than one place) but does it sound anything like precordial catch?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Precordial_catch_syndrome

I first had this in my teens (and went to the GP who shrugged it off with no explanation or diagnosis - just that he wasn't worried) - I've had it from time to time ever since. Mine typically happens half a dozen times in a fortnight, then goes dormant for several months before reappearing again. Always occurs in exactly the same spot, about 3cm southwest (or 8 o'clock direction) from my left nipple and just inside/behind the ribcage. I perceive that the sharp pain is confined to a region marginally smaller than a pea. Weird.

It's only about a year ago I did some idle Google searches and found out what it was.  [:)]

Thanks Techmind.. Precordial catch syndrom is some thing I have had as long as the other...It was diagnosed many years ago as not being anything to worry about. but I do have that but as an adult it has only come few and far in between.. which is good because although it is short in duration at times it is and extremely sharp pain....much like the one on my right as far as the sharpness of the pain!

Thanks Techmind. That is uncomfortable!  Has this gotten better for you as an adult?
