Title: What is the craziest thing you have ever found when cleaning your closets ?
Post by: Karen W. on 27/01/2007 19:40:29: Well I have found a multitude of odd things, including baby booties from the 1800's belonging to very great grandparents who felt the need to pass them down through the centuries..LOL I have found odd collections of old cameras and photograpy stuff! Oh and yes a depressing box of war pictures smuggled home from one of me grand fathers, pictures of men beheaded and hung on spits as if for roasting.. (No Joke Horrifing)! Boxes full of hand kerchiefs that were embroideried with ititials Aunts Uncles, grandparents etc. I have found two old school slates early 1900's and old 1906 Kindergarten easil, with hand crancked rolled scrolling curriculum on it, from abcs to object identification.. Tons of ancient oil lamps, old small 2 ft tall gas furnaces.. Old school primers, late 1800's to early 60's. I have found and old copy of Cinderella that is 1906 or so..Hardback no less.. I lkie that one.. Old scrap books ancient postcards.. Old hats and clothing.. Oh Yes I found a very old sex manual.. LOL it was a riot!! LOL

OK Tell all.. WHen cleaning out family history, what skelletons have you found in your Closets????? LOL

We've only been in this house about fourteen years so the only thing we are liable to find is probably a guest who is still sobering up from our house warming pary !!.YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY !!

I have three barns full of things each decendant has left me family are extreme pack rats, and geneology buffs.. LOL I think they thought that saving all that stuff that maybe someday their DNA could be used to resurrect them in all their glory... SO in the mean time I am the watch gaurd of their very souls.. LOL But Their souls are starting to take a toll on my soul... LOL Time to clean the closets..

It is a sad state of affairs when I can't even store my own things because I have several generations of stuff. I have an old hard case suitcase from around the depression times, It is my grandmas.. She took it everywhere she went.. It has one case containing her baby pinkie fingernail that they clipped upon her death and my mom encased it inher suitcase which my Gran had I old Jar full of black dust and gold because they bought the rights two a mine and did alot of panning for several years. THen there is one very large Jar of maise, corn for planting as they were always farmers.. And they traveled where they had to to grow their food.. she kept it always.. I have the dousing rods still and tons of silly things... weird stuff I tell you!

Post by: Karen W. on 29/01/2007 05:53:26: you should see this old hand made picture frame and the old photo's inside of it. the glass is broken, I should take a picture and send it to Neil to post.. It is really cool, I think the frame is made from what seems to be folded leather, I believe... It is very cool, very old. You should see the three ancient huge photos in very old gawdy looing frames, gosh they look so staunch and stern.. wedding pics that don't seem happy.. but that's the way they stood for those old pics and then the big poof of flash from those ancient old cameras.. LOL! I have an old brownie amongst several others in my closet..LOL Some pretty funny older electronic ones also..

I have thrown out huge amounts of stuff had many yard sales and gave away tons of stuff, I just cannot handle it all.. I go to a barn and say Ok today is d- day, but then i start moving stuff and checking it, and throw up my hands in frustration.. old memories are hard to throw away so I lock the doors and go away awhile until I can do a bit more.. I feel like I am thowing pieces of my family away.. and it kills me.. Isn't that stupid.. I want to find good homes for it as I can't manage it all and my sisters threw their arms up years ago and their homes are filled with stuff from the past.. LOL such a mess.

I'm afraid to say that the war pictures sound quite interesting, I have two photography books on War Photography, if I ever put my head down I might actually start an idea I had for a kinda of philosophical piece on War starting quite early on and then to present day. I haven't really thought it through properly just yet, that's why I would need to put my head down [;)]

We found a few odd bits and pieces in our old place, can't really remember exactly what we found, well apart from some mail which was probably a year old or so [???]
But when I was a little baber and we moved into my parents current home they found an old plaster cast for a leg and I think some dentures [:-\] [;)]

LOLIf anyone ever opened the closet they might have guite the surprise when this leg come falling out at them.. could have an ill effect on someone.. looks rather real until you get down to the lower shin..LOL

Oh wow! That is not stupid! It is an attachment...that is understandable...why I think you are working through an adventure of many things you are discovering...for you it is a huge chore...but it is exciting too

Gran was kicked out of school and given demerits for saying one day man was going to the moon...1918...LOL They did..LOL Stuff like that I keep her paper and things that were personal.. But there is just so much.. She kept every single letter she ever recieved and every envelope she ever wrote a note on a birthday a wedding day a persons death date or new birth.. whatever she had she wrote on it.. LOL

Get an archaeological or sociology grad student to do it for you. Why throw away all that knowledge?

I had another property several years ago that was loaded to the rafters in the houe and its two barns, I managed to clear them of the things that were left, and we then were forced to sell to over whelming bills and medical fees from my surgeries and hospital stays.. so now we have this home left and if God is willing and the creek don't rise, we may find away to keep our home safe.. Life sucks sometimes, but we need to keep going..

Anyway, My home here has three old barnes, I usually classify it as two as one actually adjoins a third separate barn that only share a covered breezeway between the two. The things are absolutely packed to the brim.. So many things... so much can be hauled away if I could just find the energy and the heart to go in and do it.. There are some very bad memories in those barns along with some newly formed good ones I just have to let the bad ones go.. but in the mean time I have a difficult time going in them.. I used to hide in the hayloft from my stepfather as a child... It was my safe place.. I still can barely stand to be in there.. I was always safe there, but when I go there it tends to drag up why I went there and then my palms sweat and I have a bit of anxioty before I hyoperventilate..and have to leave again.. I do better when I am not alone in there...so it is difficult, I have to face it sooner or later.. so I guess I better do it sooner as later may be too late.. I do not want my children having to do it.. It is a nightmare...

OH I am starving and haven't eaten dinner, Kabob talk has made me hungry! I have eaten too much the last couple weeks with too much stress, I am a stress eater... Makes me angry..... LOL

I am fixing to take my protein in the form of cashews on a nice big green salad!!!!! YAYYYYYYYY! OOOOH and maybe some manderine orange slices........UMMMMMM!

BTW Me salad was scrumptious.....I love green salad manderine oranges chicken and a nice light orange juice dressing, make that a baby spring salad with lots of spinich!!! YUMMMMMMMMMY!

That I can cuddle hug and love one more time round...LOL I bet that's the last thing you thought I would say!! LOL I am 46 years old and me wants to have another baby really bad.. I don't think it's possible anymore after my last surgery.. But I am willing to have a go at it anyways!! LOL How about that All of me wants a baby, I have thought about it and think me is going to go see the doc, and ask if he completely destroyed me or not.. I was really upset at that surgery and I am pretty positive he said I wouldn't be able to have any more babies as they scrapped the walls with some kind of wire whip to remove all the huge polyps..cists.. I wonder if I can't get pregnant or just can't carry.. I think I need to hurry up and see before me can't..

I do worry though that if something happened who would take care of the baby... Well that would be horrible..46 + 20 = 66 Hummm, I don't drink smoke take drugs or do horrible stuff to my body, maybe it would help me sleep.. Although adoption would be good to.. but I want a tiny one to start from the beginning of that whittle first breath...

Maybe it's empty nest syndrome and not liking being alone.. I really do want another baby... I have had this want before.. I recognise it well.

I am 43 and I am ready to live again...I do not want anymore babies...but you have a bigger heart for kids...I admire that...but yes, check with your doctor first...

Buy more of them and hide them in the garage in an old box as I did. Really gave me a good education - liberal mainly, because that has always been the slant of the Playboy interviews. Their fiction is damned fine as well. As for the women, most are not to my taste, never liked milk cows much. And it must be one hell of a pain in the back.

Winter does make it more uncomfortable and life more complicated for me as well.
