Title: The heritage of cows !!
Post by: neilep on 17/05/2005 13:32:51
I'm not a vegetarian...no way !!...but I do think our Bovine friends with their big ears and eyes are very cute..........and tasty !!

But, I just wondered, what is the history of a cow ?...I've never seen a wild one. Do they exist ?...is there a community of nest making cows out there in the world somewhere ?....I've never seen one up a tree !!...has anyone here actually seen a wild cow ?

Are they a genetically bred variant of an ox ? wildebeest ? mouse ?

The ox was 1st domesticated thousands of years ago. Since then it has been selectively bred to become the cow. There are still wild oxen in various parts of the world. But, no - you will never see a Highland Longhorn building a nest in a tree. The reason being they can't jump that high.

It didn't jump over the moon. It was wearing Clive Sinclair's latest invention - jet-pack boots.
Actually, that's quite a freaky nursery rhyme:- fiddle-playing cats, jumping cows, laughing dogs, dishes running around. Was the person who wrote it having an acid trip?

I think it's safe to say that a lot of literary works, annd paintings etc have been fuelled by  'recreational assistance' !!...but you're right, that one is a particurly bizarre nursery rhyme...

That Buxton-Macclesfield road is very well-known to bikers, as is the Cat & Fiddle pub.
