Post by: neilep on 10/11/2009 19:17:47

As a sheepy I of course inhabit the Earth. Earth  is like well nice and is my all time favourite planet that has water, some hills and some trees and stuff. I luff earth, ewe uff earth, we all luff earth, earth is great !

Look, here is everybody's ideal of a Utopian Earth !!

A Utopian Earth..It's Everybody's Ideal !

But, say for some reason (like ewe all blowing yourselves up) humankind was wiped off the face of the planet !!...that would really ruin your day yes ?.....what would the first 100 years be like ?..1000 years ?..granted they'd be a big paaarrttaaayyyy for a few years and then what ? What what happen to stuff like cities and power stations and McDonalds Apple pies ?

Ewe see, I just do not know and I'd really like to know cos I need to make plans and get my invite list prepared....

So, what would happen to the earth should humankind be wiped off it?

whajafink ?

hugs and shmishes

mwah mwah mwah !

Are you entirely unaware of the television show "Life After People"?  Essentially, the residual long term effect is a return to unmanipulated nature.  Things like gold bars and stainless steel would survive beneith the canopy, but eventual techtonics would subduct it all and recycle.

What will last are the various machines humans have placed on the Moon, and Mars, for instance. They will be there till the sun goes Giant Red.

But there is a hell of a lot more to the story then that. Mathematically capable animals are a complete anomoly. The dynosaurs lasted tens of millions of years, but never even got to plane geometry. Our own mathematically capable species was nearly wiped out not long ago. Geneticists believe our species dwindled to a few thousand individuals in the not distant past. Specifically, there is more genetic diversity in a Chimp Troop then all of homo sapiens.

Whether this unique species is marvel or monster, it is seems entirely unique.  Perhaps you might prefer a Jurasic Park over a Menlo Park, its your perogative. Just remember, in a simple state of nature you are nothing but food for the next guy up the chain.

Thank ewe Litespeed for your great answer. Nope, never heard of the program "life after people"...is it still on ?..here in the UK ?

Wouldn't all those unmanned power stations make the Earth inhospitable for a while ? [???]

For an insight into life on Earth without humans, pop along to your local McDonalds.

Hi Neil,

The History Channel presented "Life Without People" a year or two ago, I think as a single episode or two. It was very popular, and was expanded to include specific themes.

The general format is to progress in time forward in given intervals. For instance, day one the dog would get hungry etc. Your power plants were specifically included. Most of them would simply shut themselves down over time. Some hydro projects might stay on line longer.  Perhaps Hoover Dam keeps Los Vegas well lit for awhile.

You get the drift.  http://www.history.com/content/life_after_people
