Title: Can you find diamonds in jet engine exhausts?
Post by: Jim Polisini on 28/09/2011 00:30:04
Jim Polisini  asked the Naked Scientists:

Chris,

Your August 21st podcast (http://www.thenakedscientists.com/HTML/podcasts/) discussed both a filter with exceedingly small pores used to capture the combustion products in a burning candle and a lengthy discussion of jet engine engineering.  Very small diamonds were found in the candle combustion samples.

Has anyone looked for the same very small diamonds in jet engine exhaust?  Given the industrial use of diamonds, might this be a funding source to the airline industry to subsidize low-cost travel?

Best,
James M. Polisini
