Title: Are there any "everyday" applications as a result of research in fusion?
Post by: Linda Phillips on 19/10/2008 13:17:47
Linda Phillips asked the Naked Scientists:

Are there any "everyday" applications as a result of research in fusion?  At least anything we (non-scientists) would recognize.

Thank you.

What do you think?

Fusion research requires the design of materials and proceeses under rather unusual conditions and invoves exceptionally high electrical and magnetic fields to improved designs and materials may help designs for very stressed environments but on the whole it is rather unlikely that fusuion research will produce mass market spinoffs.
