kyle lemaire asked the Naked Scientists:
My name is Kyle out of Colorado, US. I listen to your show via podcast (http://www.thenakedscientists.com/HTML/podcasts/) while i am at work and i love it, each week i look forward to the updates.
My question is why, when experiencing an orgasm, do we have involuntary muscle contractions? Why are certain muscles targeted and what purpose does it serve?
Kyle
What do you think?

I believe it has something to do with the contracting of muscles in the build up to orgasm and then the release after which causes the twitch.

I believe the cervix 'dips' at orgasm to help aid sperm in their travels.
