Title: Why won't my icons work?
Post by: Carolyn on 26/08/2008 03:12:48
Earlier today, I logged out of my email, and logged out of TNS, but didn't "X" out of the internet before closing my laptop.  An hour or so later when I opened my laptop, IE stopped responding, so I then "X'd" out.  When I clicked on the IE icon, it didn't work, in fact, none of my icons work now.

Does anyone have any idea why and how I can repair them?  Any help will be greatly appreciated and to show it, I'll send you a box of cookies. [:)]

Sometime last week that happened to me and somehow I had managed unwittingly, to have turned off and disabled my icons... By accident this week I found a place on my tool bar to enable and show my icons! So it is working fine now.. I use Firefox web browser, so it wasn't explorer. I imagine you could look in preferences to find the tab to click enabling them again.

go here for IT:

If that doesn't work You may try this page:

Carolyn do you mean the desktop icons?

If so right-click on the desktop then go to "arrange icons by"
then either left-click on "Show Icons" to make a tick appear.

Or do the opposite left-click again to remove the tick and then the
icons will appear/disappear.

Which ever you want to happen also it's the same lot of commands for properties for desktop, screensaver stuff.

Thanks Karen and Rosalind.  I have no idea why it happened in the first place, but Nic fixed it when he rebooted.

Do you any form of registry cleaning programs If so re import an older copy or simply do a system restore. There are a number of reasons for this to happen from the NTOS.EXE file running as a process which can disassociate shortcuts and exe file from being executed to simple registry problems !
