Title: Should I ask a doctor about stopping smoking?
Post by: redchill on 25/06/2008 11:05:16
I’m using chantix for quit smoking but without consult of any doctors. I found some information on chantix precautions at  http://www.chantixhome.com/chantix_precautions.html . Is this enough for me? Or I should consult with a doctor as well?

On their home page they state that it's a prescription medication.  I would think it unwise to be taking any prescription medication without consulting a doctor first.

Have a careful talk to yourself, look at pictures black cancerous lungs, people who have lost both legs due to gangrene, and those dying a horrible death from emphysema or bladder cancer. This will really wake you up, and then you will be ready for help

I am trying quit smoking and took Chantix. After a week I noticed tinnitus and then found in internet the same symptoms from many people who had taken Chantix. But they don’t mention in instruction about it.

A big influence in helping me to stop smoking was the death of 2 family friends through smoking related cancers, one mid 40's, the other 50. Also, the fact that I wanted to still be able to play football etc with my boys when they reached that age without collapsing into a heaving heap. I gave up 4 years ago without any withdrawal repercussions, so it can be done without medication, if you have the incentive.

The only way to stop smoking is to stop smoking. People will thank you. Don't ask for help of any sort because quite frankly nobody cares how much you spend killing youself, as long as you don't exhale over them. But doctors and pharmacists will take your money as happily as the tobacco companies.
