What makes the good pen a better pen? I know it writes better, it feels better in your hands, its just plain amazing.
What makes it be better? What makes the other pens be worse? Cuz ain't a pen a pen. Its got ink in a plastic tube thingy and a tip the ink comes out of. Why's it better?

What make is your favourite pen,Simulated?
I use a Parker pen because it writes so smoothly and it's easy
hold like you mentioned.

I really don't have a favorite brand of pen. I just find whatevers laying of the floor ha, but I really ain't sure actually.

I have more commonly used Cross pens - could not find a Parker pen that writes fine enough for my liking (my handwriting is a scrawl at the best of time, and a thick scrawl is even worse than a thin scrawl).
On the other hand, with so many new technologies now available (like gel pens, etc.), it becomes a far more complex issue to choose a writing instrument (on the other hand, I simply try not to write these days, and prefer to type things into a computer - then there is some hope I will understand it when I read it back - these days, I am so unused to handwritten text, I even have trouble reading other people's handwriting, let alone my own).

This is my current favourite pen of choice.
It writes on anything !...glass, plastic, even underwater !!...which is handy when I go scuba diving in the bath !!

yes the refills are expensive but I have had the present one in for over 1 year. I can't remember exactly when I did replace it.

Ohh, not Parker Pens.. Well their refills are quite expensive, but not as much as 3.50 each. But then again, I use ink cartridges, which wear out really quickly.. Like one in 3 days. So I just use those suck up ink cartridges and a bottle of ink so I just suck it up whenever I need some [;D]

I had my favorite pen.. It was a green marbled Waterman.. cost me 75.00 dollars several years ago..... some child took it from my purse and I have never gotten it back... ERRRRG! I believe some lucky student is writing with it or graduated..! LOL..
The ink flowed well and it was smooth and did not blot or clogg it was quite a nice pen!
I think about him often!!!

Hee hee ....they are special ' one-off ' pens manufactured bu a high end audio equipment manufacturer.....and any true pedantic audiophile will tell you that it's fairly important to have the equipment set up just right !!....though..I can imagine carpenters, builders etc finding those pens more useful.......I've never used them on my equipment though !!

I could write a whole paragraph about it or two but I suspect Techmind could explain it better, and I don't want to kill this thread...........In short though, leveling equipments is probably most useful when it comes to setting up record players and setting up speakers too !

Well like I mean. If you were take a new pen. and you hadda unlimited supply of 8.5 by 11 sheets of paper how many sheets of paper (say just one side) would the ink take up til its gone?
and how much ink is in one of them little pen?

I'll be honest and say I just don't know.......it all depends on a quite a few factors...the size of the aperture and the ball point, how much ink is stored, hw runny the ink is !!
I don't have a clue.....sorry matey !

I like plain old Bic fine points.
I do all my best writing with them and they are cheap too!

yep.. the best one to use is HB (hard black) But you have to secure them to yourself (they float) and you also have to tape them around the pencil because after a while the wood will split down along the join down the length of the pencil.

IOt depends on why you are diving. Researchers may need to draw a picture or jot down some notes of whatever they are researching, or they can be used for communication outside the realms of the normal hand signals that are used in most diving situations)

I did have a nice 18k gold Cross pen which got stolen and now I just use a cheap Biro.
All that talk of pens and cost reminded me of this old news.
In the U.S. in the 1960s, NASA decided it needed a ball point pen to write in the zero gravity of its space capsules. After lots of research and development, the Astronaut Pen was developed at a cost of approximately $1 million.
The Soviet Union.. used a pencil. [;D]
Its since been found out that an ordinary Biro works just as well in zero gravity.

They are Magnificent! - I have the roller ball. My favorite fountain pen (even though I now have a Mont Blanc fountain pen) is the Pelikan 250. Although well less than the Mont Blanc, they have the most perfect balance (as is the Mont Blanc roller-ball) of those I have tried and make writing totally effortless. It makes a huge difference in the readability of my writing.

Perhaps why its better is due to the flow adjustment and ink consistency and perhaps one delivery system is better then others.. perhaps the tip shape or size of the roller ball or something!

I believe its the Waterman Pen Roller ball.. They can sell from $75 .00 US up to $93.00 US or so.. depending on where you find it!

That's why I use 'fine point' although they can 'freeze up' in cooler weather.. but that's rarely a problem in my part of the world.

It can be found as inexpensively as $95 on the web here. These are not really good values. I also like to have the nibs reworked to ad flexibility to them so the do not get out of line very easily.
See this http://www.nibs.com/mainpage.html. It is in San Francisco, California and I believe their tempering of the gold and titanium nibs for extra flexibility is well worth the price. A friend of mine who is a professional calligrapher recommended this company to me quite a while back. She uses this company a lot and believes the 2r0 series is the best calligraphy pen she can get her hands on - I think she is correct. They are listed in the Souverän Series on this site.
