Would anything happen?

Sorry for the sick thought [;)]

Would anything happen?
I think that under the current law you would probably get arrested.
If you mean would the dog get pregnant - despite all the folk lore regarding hybrid half man half beats animals, there has been no documented case of such actually happening, and it would run counter to everything we know about genetics and chromosomes (dogs have a very different number of chromosomes to humans, and so it would be difficult to see how the human sperm could fix its chromosomes to the chromosomes in the dogs ova).
-
But there is a possibility that it may get pregnant?

Unequivocally no.
-
Oh.. So if it's not possible.. Then why against the law?
Animal abuse?
-
... or the danger that you might get bitten ?
-
LOL.. [;D]
-
As a general rule, you wake up still drunk and your friends have a good laugh...

*Smacks forehead* [;D]

Until very recently, I believe sodomy was illegal, but that too has nothing to do with the risk of pregnancy - merely politicians deciding what public moral tastes should be.
Certainly, there is an argument that might be put forward as to whether a dog might be considered competent to give consent for sexual activity with a human (there is no reason that one might assume the mental competence of a dog to in any way be superior to that of a 12 year old girl).

You haven't met my Jack Russell! [:D]

Tell that to the judge.

The definition of a species is that animals can interbreed (although this may not be possible between extremes in the dog population which are all the same species) a different species of animal cannot usually interbreed but there are exceptions.
Horses and donkeys can interbreed and produce mules and hinnies (according to which sex is the horse) These animals are usually infertile and cannot themselves breed.
There were two subspecies of humans the Neanderthals and us and it has been suggested that we did not exterminate or displace them rather we interbred with them and they lost their identity.
As to whether humans could interbreed with their closest relatives the great apes this topic is not considered to be socially acceptable to reasonable people although stories do exist of things like this happening
-
would it be possible for humans and apes to produce a child though? i'm not saying it would be right... but could it be done?
-
I don't believe so. Although, of course, humans are actually apes themselves; so, technically, the answer is yes.
-
ok now i'm confused.. a lot of that going on today. if we ARE apes then why are we not able to mate with them?
-
Coz dem is well ugly innit! [;D]
-
well... yes that's true
-
It all has to do with chromosome numbers. Hairy apes have a different number than we naked apes. Thus, no little mutant primates.

That reminds me... ***** ******** *** *** ********* ******** ******* final.
Sorry DOC
I had to Edit your post due to the fine line and the problems which can occur when someone tries to straddle it.:)

No. There is no posibility that you will get half dog half man.
The two genes aren't compatible. So...if you are a girl the your ovule won't get fecundated properly and it will be eliminated. The same thing will happen to the animal.
-
I think a cross breed is always *theoretically* possible, for example there have been some horse/donkey cross breeds that were actually fertile (and they have different numbers of chromosomes), but the further apart any two animals are in the family tree of life the less and less likely that they will breed successfully.
Usually, on average 50% of the DNA is from the male and 50% from the female, but if the percentages are very, very skewed then a viable animal could in principle occur. I mean it's possible to take a few genes from a human and put them into a dog, and it would probably survive (depending on the genes), but if you put a lot of genes in the dog, the chances of something bad happening and killing the foetus goes up exponentially.
So, by the time you are as far apart as a dog and a human, the chances are so low that anything viable would be produced by non artificial means, then it could probably be tried from now to the end of the universe without anything live being carried to term.

He'd have a bitch of a time..............woopeeeee!!!!!!

Hey hey hey!
Speaking from experience are you Ethos? [xx(]

I never kiss and tell.................A bitch of a time,....get it???

Don't worry, I don't blame you...

Of course I get it! [:D]

You're quite OK I must say...........

Unfortunately for me, you're the only person who thinks that. [:D]

Poor fellow...........Frankly, I find that rather difficult to believe, you seem like a decent soul. Why would you come to such a conclusion, I'm sure you must be mistaken my friend...........Ethos
-
The thing is, I can't work out whether you are being serious or not because I wasn't.

For the record; When I said you were OK, I meant every word. As for most of the rest of my nonsense, I probably wasn't.
-
Okay, I'm glad we cleared that one up. [:)]
-
I best way is to close dog's mouth and start sex....
I think you will become hulk ha hah a ha
-
hulk? what?

I think the answer to most of the questions regarding interbreeding across a species boundary, and even between substantially different members within a species, is it would not result in pregnancy. Not even a remote chance. That is not to say it can't be done via genetic engineering though.
I'm, really intrigued as to what Dr B said. I missed it. D'oh!
