ha u bunch of fannys!dont even know how to make a smoke bomb

Ingredients:
50g Sulfur
200g of water
12g of Nitrate
15g Magnesium
200g of Mecury

How to make it!
Put the water in a tub and boil it til it bubbles!
Then add the nitrate until it dissolves
then add mercury
to finish it off at the sulfur and magnesium at the same time
u then put the lid on the tub and open it where u want it to b let off
but what it has a hazard of expoldin and making a large bang sound!

Alberto Is this formula Dangerous.. as I will take care of it.. we don't want to have something like that hurt someone!! I can remove the post , as we do have children here as well as unknowing adults like me , who like to use this forum to teach my young 3 to 5 year old students cool cience projects.. Gawwd that could endanger someone.. let me know , email me or reply back!

Take nitrate out and see what you have left...also mercury can be a very tricky substance too...LOL[xx(]

Karen, there are lots of chemicals that can be very dangerous even household commong biocide products...just a thought.  For certain chemicals children have to be a certain age before obtaining them, but then there is the internet too...you know what I mean...two words are needed here parental control...this is not a childproof world

It is a dangerous combo, but anyone can google it...chemistry is a dangerous post period!  Especially if you don't know the combination of what you are doing...it could be very dangerous from fumes, explosive, and much more...

Do you think thats something to be deleted , I would hate to have some little kid come along and try it! I am heading to bed, its 3:08 in the morning. I would like to have George check this out and give us his opinion but it sounds like bad advice and not the proper precations added to it. If you can Gaia will you relay to George and see what he thinks.. He candelete it if he thinks its neccesary ok. I have to go while the goings good or the sleep opertunity will pass. The wedding was beautiful by the way! very pretty and the bride and groom were perfect!! Oh young love!!

My judgement is that it is better to let people know where the dangers lurk, than to sweep everything under the carpet and make it appear as if all the dangerous stuff does not exist.

We are here to answer questions, and if the answer to the question is that what you are proposing is dangerous, then let is stand.

I would suggest that in this day and age, getting 200g of mercury for the ordinary member of the public is not going to be easy, and if they can get their hands on it, it will not be through us (no-one here is selling mercury – and if they do, that may have to be looked at more carefully), but we are here to give advice, not least advice upon the dangers people may face.

Thank you so much george as I was not sure how to handle that one.. I am glad You is my partner as I no nothing about these kind of things,, I no not to mix bleach with ammonia, or other household cleaners...thats about it!!

hi there, the easyest way to make a smoke bomb is to melt potasium nitrate with suger (creates a bunch of smoke) do it outside and very low temperature, ill leave it to you guys how to ignite it, there are several ways, Play safe!!!!!!

I agree with another_someone.

It's better people knows what is dangerous. 200 grams of mercury for a smoke bomb are dangerous, first, in boiling water, because, even if mercury's boiling point is 357°C, at 100°C its vapour pressure is already quite high and the water vapours carries it out.

Second, the mercury is released as vapour in big amounts in the smoke bomb reaction, and to inhale those fumes could be very toxic, if not letal. For those who don't know: mercury is poisonous, especially in gaseous form.

What mostly worries me in that post is the low level of knowledge of chemistry, together with the low level of seriousness the subject was considered.

Thank you Alberto it worried me greatly as I like to be able to have reliable information on hese things as I like to use some of this knowledge on the forum for demonstrations and experiments for my kids in the preschool.. grant ed, I have to use the most basic of information as the children are very young.. But I would at least appreciate safe accurate information..to build upon.. I appreciate your input!
