I wanted to know about the importance of our ear lobes.. Do they have any evolutionary importance or just are a pair of vestigial organs left with no use at all?
-
I believe they are controlled by the Au gene, which is more prevelant in women. This gene also has an influence on other area's of the female appendage.
-
Yes, as for me, I know, my earlobes are very sensitive and they quite enjoy light nibbles..and warm breath! LOL! It is very stimulating.. if you know what I mean!LOL!
Seriously I do believe that is what they are good for other then hanging a dangle or two now and then.. otherwise they are open for nibbles! LOL!

Earlobes are clearly designed for Ear rings - just as ears are designed to hold your glasses up. Evolution can clearly plan ahead.
Really! Why don't you think before you ask such questions?
-
Evolution also saw the need for 1" studs though the earlobes as well. That is why they can stretch.
I really like mine. they are teak wood inside of silver rings

Au gene [::)] you sly dog! Must be related to the Ag and Pt genes. Female appendages, eh? Let's see- would primarily affect fingers, wrists, neck, possibly toes, but in more recent times- tongue, lips, nostrils, eyebrows, belly buttons, nipples and other areas?

LOL LOL!

Glad you liked it :-)

I wanted to know about the importance of our ear lobes..
earlobes could tell you "who's the daddy ?" ...
Whether the earlobe is free or attached is a classic example of a simple genetic dominance relationship; freely hanging earlobes are the dominant allele and attached earlobes are recessive. Therefore, a person whose genes contain one allele for free earlobes and one for attached lobes will display the freely hanging lobe trait.

LOL....I assumed you were just pulling our leg, although I would be willing to bet that a little silver or gold stud would look quite dapper with your grey hair. [;D]
I was saying no to Nic. He's been after me for months to let him get a slightly smaller gauge earring. I say absolutely not...the hole in his ear is big enough! [:)]

Ear lobes are home to many little tiny hairs..which help you to hear. Loss of these hairs could make your hearing worse.
although im glad we got them. How else could we listen to our MP3's [:o]

Actually the tiny hair-cells which help you hear are located inside the cochlea, the coiled-up snail-shaped part deep inside the ear.

Can't speak for Jim, but I refuse to go in for self mutilation (then, I don't go for jewellery, not even a wrist watch - hate things on or through my skin - only glad I've never had to wear a wedding ring).

Self mutilation or self expression ~ where do you draw the line? Some people have obviously NO lines what-so-ever....

Alex Lambrecht (a Belgian) holds the record for men AND he likes tatoos too
I don't know.
For me, a little (of either) goes a loooooooooooooong way
But I have no problem having some nice sparkly danglies around my wrist to complement a nice time piece
[;D]

I have two piercing one in each ear. I like bracelets some, earrings when I feel like it a couple times a year.. and love sparkly hair clips and wear one ring! 1 necklace that I received last year from my friend Mary.. I have never really worn necklaces but like this one. It meant a lot to me. ears I like small dainty earrings or solid cover sometimes.. None all the time.
-
Ewwww Alandriel....that's disturbing. [:o]
Jewelery is my weakness, but that's a little much for me. I have two holes in each ear....thats more than plenty for me.
-
What's this two wholes in one ear ladies?? Are we on the same trend or something?
Isn't that funny [;D]
I got two holes in my right but only one in my left.
The odd one always holds a small pearl
