Title: Beaver fan club or Skunk fan club ????
Post by: JimBob on 16/03/2008 19:29:18
Before you vote, some information:

It is well known that the family of Asian and American animals, one of which is shown here

(https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi38.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fe111%2Fgeezer69%2Fskunk.jpg&hash=d1c9d6d0cc7c261ec20ca4a924877f86)

has a gland that is used to spray potential predators when threatened with a most obnoxious odor.

The Beaver, on the other hand (shown below)

(https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi38.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fe111%2Fgeezer69%2Fbeaver.jpg&hash=cb72a5d20643dfce63286c6e618b0535)

is an animal that has an obnoxious odor at all times. If you get down wind from one, even if you are hundreds of yards away, it is as bad or worse than a skunk's sometimes odoriferous emissions. This is due to it's obnoxious odor of the anal castor sac glands (there are two of them) with which the beaver marks its territory. In ancient Rome it was believed that burning a castor sac and enduring the foul odor would induce an abortion.

The skunk uses its scent glands only for defense.

SO THE QUESTION IS:

Which fan club would you belong to if you lived near, or even in the same county as, both of these creatures?

Women fight over anything - you should see them at a close out sale - pulling hair, body slams, kidney punches - it is vicious, very, very vicious. Who said that men were the war-like ones? If you get in the way of a woman and her objective, the French Foreign Legion couldn't stop her.

Now, who can tell me where it comes from?

Good guess, my brilliant son, but you are WRONG!!!

It is a famous line in a play and I think this famous line came from the same play.

Music has charms to soothe a savage breast

Being rather literate myself it is from "The Mourning Bride" by William Congreve, 1697:

As you'll answer it, take heed
This Slave commit no Violence upon
Himself. I've been deceiv'd. The Publick Safety
Requires he should be more confin'd; and none,
No not the Princes self, permitted to
Confer with him. I'll quit you to the King.
Vile and ingrate! too late thou shalt repent
The base Injustice thou hast done my Love:
Yes, thou shalt know, spite of thy past Distress,
    And all those Ills which thou so long hast mourn'd;
Heav'n has no Rage, like Love to Hatred turn'd,
Nor Hell a Fury, like a Woman scorn'd.

See Doc, OTHERS see you as the troublemaker as well as I do. Perhaps you need a psychologist - opps perhaps a colleague you are supposedly a psychologist.

I guess that this bears out the axiom that only those who need help the most go into psychology.

I had it the first time, everyone knows what impudent means. I'm not ashamed of being either, it was such a poor attempt at an insult I wasn't sure if you were actually trying to insult me. Better luck next time.

I was so unimpressed I didn't think I needed to waste a good retort on you meager attempt at a jab at me. So the lame insult for a lame dude - makes sense to me.

This is between he and I - Why would you inject yourself into this?

And, ans customary, the one challenged gets the choice of weapons - you use lead weights in your hand bag so I am going for horseshoes at 30 paces. I want to see you kick one off.

Confident and Confidant are two different things. Unless I'm mistaken, and I probably am, ConfidAnt is a close friend. While the former term, ConfidEnt means courage.

There is such a thing as a dictionary - I would suggest that you have your parents invest in the Oxford Unabridged Dictionary of the English Language. Mine is a monstrosity - all volumes compressed into two huge tomes (well over 50 pounds in weight) with a magnifying glass that comes with it to read the words - BUT there is GREAT news - this dictionary is now available on CD!

Please ring them up and tell them you know a Beaver in Oxfordshire that needs servicing.

Do you realise what this means in the UK?????

Probably the same thing it means here!  My husband has a beaver t-shirt that is just wrong.  He's not allowed to wear it out in public with me.

Not really - in order to make the felt, the beaver hair is scraped off the skin and is pounded by machines for hours to make it smooth. For a T-shirt, you just need to rip off the beaver's skin and let it bleed to death. Unless you kill it first, which is just a waste of ammunition. Why go to all that trouble for a water rat?

It makes the best, most durable and waterproof hats available. SEE THESE

This is very close to the one I own. Mine is a traditional Cattleman's that is blocked like this one but the brim is not quite as wide as this one nor does the brim curl up as sharply as this one. The color is the same.

You would need to meet Doctor Beaver and then report to me what it was like to be felt. I am just NOT going to do that - I got'ta draw the line somewhere.

I bought a really comfy pair of shoes in an old fasioned shoe shop once and the assistant asked me if I would like my upper felt. It is far the best material to have inside your shoe.

Got to go doctor calls.

Men have asked me to do a homer before now. I understand what they were asking after this.

If they have asked you to do a homer, you should be able to do that without batting an eye - it means to do something incredibly stupid - not something that would be a stretch for you.
