On Friday 13th 1307, Phillip IV of France ordered that hundreds of Knights Templar be arrested - including their leader Jacques DeMolay - on charges of heresy. They were tortured until they confessed and 3 Grand Masters, DeMolay among them, were subsequently burned to death. Many scholars believe this is the origin of Friday 13th being considered unlucky.

George - 12 does indeed have significance in many esoteric beliefs. However, it's not that there are 12 zodiacal signs, 12 apostles, 12 tribes of Israel, etc. In fact, it's exactly the opposite. The number 12 has had mystical significance since far earlier. It is more likely that those groupings of 12 came about as a result of the significance of the number.
i was under the impression that they lived in the garden of eden for quite some time... but i haven't heard that story for a very long time, so i guess i'm probably wrong
