WELCOME TO SIMULATED MUSIC LESSONS!!
Today’s lesson will cover all the notes on piano.
At first glance the piano looks BIG and COMPLICATED. That is not true. There are only 12 different notes on piano. Now your thinking to yourself “How is that possible, aren’t there like 88 keys on the piano?” Yes there are 88 keys, but they all just keep repeating themselves. Those 12 different keys (plus the first note again so 13) are called an octave. An octave looks like this. (https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi155.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs319%2FKraneDiggity%2FKeyboard.jpg&hash=448ad5bb0b5aad1f82e05bdebd9ac6c7) From a C to another C is sounds the exact same except higher. (I will demonstrate this when I get to ‘Tuning a Guitar Lesson’)
Now you are looking at the image going “So what do all those keys mean?” I’ll start out explaining the white keys.
The white key all the way to the left and the right is C. As this image shows, (https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi155.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs319%2FKraneDiggity%2FKeyboard-C.jpg&hash=15fe0627db5e3a2a1f21a5fe3f1e514b)
The white key next to the C is called a D. (https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi155.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs319%2FKraneDiggity%2FKeyboard-D.jpg&hash=04cd86002e552fa781f0aaf80766d3ca)
The white key next to the D is called an E.
(https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi155.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs319%2FKraneDiggity%2FKeyboard-E.jpg&hash=017ffc589ab15dfd96d51dcf3ba18d32)
The white key next to the E is called F. In case you haven’t caught on yet it goes by the alphabet.
(https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi155.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs319%2FKraneDiggity%2FKeyboard-F.jpg&hash=8a8bc0a03b38be0210bc27cbe8e75bc4)
The white key next to the F is a G.
(https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi155.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs319%2FKraneDiggity%2FKeyboard-G.jpg&hash=f28324af8284c3b04a05cbd75c3a4b26)
The white key next to the G is an A. “Why from G to A?!” Well its supposed to be from A to G and not C to C, but it is easier to teach in C to C and it makes more sense.
(https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi155.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs319%2FKraneDiggity%2FKeyboard-A.jpg&hash=308567c0c779a9cb3e9f0f900c5fb731)
The white key next to the A is a B.
(https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi155.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs319%2FKraneDiggity%2FKeyboard-B.jpg&hash=650b9831cb1bd112a3436eea7cef6c15)
The white key next to the B is back to a C.
(https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi155.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs319%2FKraneDiggity%2FKeyboard-C.jpg&hash=15fe0627db5e3a2a1f21a5fe3f1e514b)
Congratulations!! You now know how to find ALL the white keys on a piano!!
Are you all ready for the black keys? I sure hope you are because I’m just going on to them. HAHA.
The black keys are sharps and flats. Sharps raise right and Flats lower left. Now you thinking, “OK what if I am at G and I raise right a G Sharp then I go to A and lower left and play an A Flat? Am I playing both notes at the same time?” The answer to that is yes you are. Why the made up two names for the same exact key is beyond me. Ready to learn where to find the black keys? (When I say “The next back key to the __ it is what most people use to call it)
The furthest black to key the left is a C Sharp (Raises right) and a D flat (lowers left)
(https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi155.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs319%2FKraneDiggity%2FKeyboard-DFlat.jpg&hash=312bb7fc222c36233d97247ec484c7e6) (https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi155.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs319%2FKraneDiggity%2FKeyboard-C-1.jpg&hash=e9cb2f2ce13255d0685aa0e9ddc6532f)
The next black key to the C Sharp is a D Sharp (Raises Right) and an E Flat (Lowers left)
(https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi155.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs319%2FKraneDiggity%2FKeyboard-D-1.jpg&hash=96b2253f5e025b826774ac472b407f94) (https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi155.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs319%2FKraneDiggity%2FKeyboard-Eflat.jpg&hash=c255183c97a6093ab62905fc86a19b6d)
The next black key to the E flat is the F Sharp (Think Ya’ll got the Raises and Lowers thing now so I’ll stop with that) and G Flat.
(https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi155.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs319%2FKraneDiggity%2FKeyboard-F-1.jpg&hash=a07d16586d3489101079dddcca221df1)

(https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi155.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs319%2FKraneDiggity%2FKeyboard-G-1.jpg&hash=52935621e87a5462f8cbb9e3b0585f12) (https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi155.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs319%2FKraneDiggity%2FKeyboard-Aflat.jpg&hash=09f81a8c09f81cff33771cebf4562e2f)
The next black to the A Flat is the A Sharp and the B Flat.
(https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi155.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs319%2FKraneDiggity%2FKeyboard-A-1.jpg&hash=c095d89bf612a2b5c9f0881e8ffe02f0)

The next black key to the B Flat is the C Sharp and D Flat again.
This time you all deserve a BIG CONGRADULATIONS for learning every note on the piano!
Even if you don’t have a piano and/or never planning on getting one I hope that you have found this lesson interesting and have at least learnt something that you can share with other people.
Thank you Karen for suggestion me to do this. It’s giving me something to do when Kayla isn’t on the computer or home to be on the phone! LoL.
THE NEXT LESSON will be Scales!

Scale a group of letters A through A being an octave.. going up 8 notes, or an octave. They are 8 consecutive letters on a scale that represent different tones and allow you to use it to write and compose the rest of the music using these tones on the scale to create your music.
-
Yes it is Karen (Cheater LoL) But is A to A all black key, white keys, or a mixutre of both? LoL.

Scale a group of letters A through A being an octave.. going up 8 notes, or an octave. They are 8 consecutive letters on a scale that represent different tones and allow you to use it to write and compose the rest of the music using these tones on the scale to create your music.
Technically there are 7 notes in a scale; the 8th being the 1st note of the scale an octave higher.
Pentatonic scales (as favoured in blues music) have 5. Much Eastern music (Arabic, Indian etc) has more than 8 notes in a scale, including quarter-tones. For that reason most of it cannot be played on Western instruments.
Also, your statement that there are "...8 consecutive letters on a scale" is misleading. For instance, the key of Emaj consists the notes E Gb Ab A B Db Eb; alphabetically they are not consecutive.
-
Hum?
-
Yeah I am almost everytime I'm on this site I am on the laptop.
OH!!
